Thanks for all the compliments, I appreciate it. Several questions have come in since I posted the link to my coop. I will try and answer some of them.

I started the construction of the coop in the middle of October, but I started collecting all the materials about a month before that. At the end of January I tore my medial and radial meniscus and was out for about a month recovering from surgery. Using all the recycled materials make the thing look good but it does take a lot longer since you can’t order the lengths you need, you have to take what you get.

Speaking of using pallets for building projects, there are a lot of pallets I used in building this thing. All of the nesting boxes were made from pallet scraps, the automatic feeder, wall covering on the inside of the coop, windows and doors will be made recycled pallets as well.

We live about 4 miles from the airport in Gardner, on 13.5 acres. The chickens are our fist adventure in raising animals for food, depending on how this goes I am sure we will have more varieties of animals in the future. I do know that any other animal we get will not have such a nice place to live. This thing has taken longer and cost more than I originally expected.

In the almost 42 yrs I have lived in the midwest I have never been "shrooming" now have I eaten any fresh harvested mushrooms. (even ones soaked in cold water) I'd love to go sometime! I wouldn't even need to bring many home cause dh doesn't like em. I'll have to see if my friend down the road ever goes hunting mushrooms. I need to broaden my horizons a little. ~sigh~

One of you guys in the buffooning pics looks familiar from the Overbrook sale earlier this month. Guy in the second pic, did my friend buy some duck from you? If I come to the Topeka sale this weekend I'm wearing a name tag with CarolAnn on it. I want to meet some BYC'rs. I never made it to a get together in Lawrence.

Help! Does anyone have any ideas how to keep some babies warm in the back of a pickup with a camper topper? It is going to be cooler Saturday AM and I don't want to stress my babies at the swap. I'm open to any suggestions. Prefer not to have to go buy something since I live miles from any decent shopping. I've seen people just set babies out in cardboard boxes in 60 degree weather but I won't do that. I care about all animals welfare. Thanks

I have a 2000w (4000w max) power inverter I run off my truck battery for nighttime photoshoots that I could bring with me for ya to use! Downside is you'd have to leave the truck running so you wouldn't kill the battery! Sure 5 hours would be a lot of gas! A small generator would probably be your best bet!

Thanks for the ideas. I would sure hate to leave the truck running but I appreciate the offer. Maybe I can use combinations of the other ideas and come up with something that will last until I leave. I just wish the weather would warm up and stay that way.
