Hello All! Our family will soon be joining the ranks of chicken owners. I ordered our four chickens last month but they won't be shipped until mid June. Thankfully that will give us time to prepare the back yard and build our little coop. We do live in Wichita so we're only getting hens (hopefully!) and are looking forward to enjoying some eggs maybe by Christmas I'd guess. We have ordered two Easter Eggers, one Barred Plymouth Rock and one Welsummer. The kids are very excited
I do have a question about feed. I'd really like to use organic chicken feed but haven't found any places that carry it in Wichita. Does anyone know of a local source for this? I did find Thayer Feed in Thayer, KS but with the price of gas it's a little too far away.
I've enjoyed reading the entire thread so far and appreciate all the valuable information that has been shared. Thanks!

I think maybe ChooksChick on here makes her own feed. You might contact her. I know my daughter buys a feed similar to bird food that is ground a little. I am sure there are some awesome recipes on the net for making your own as well.
Good day you fine folk's. I have been soo busy lately. Does anyone no anything about game birds? I have been talking them over with my Better half
who has them and who sells them locally.
I have a Brinsea Mini incubator and would like to try and hatch a few game birds, just not sure what kind to get I like quail, but I hear they are tough to raise. If anyone could help me out I would be tickled.
I have raised a couple quail, what kind do have in mind? Your mini would work great for them. I use a brinsea eco 20 and love it. I also use 2 home built bators too thou. I dont feel they are hard to raise or hatch, a little different than chickens, but not hard. There are a few rules that should'nt be violated but I think thats true for anything. Things I like most about quail, besides eating them, is the pens dont take as much space as a coop or flight pen. Wire bottom pens makes cleaning a breeze!! BTW, I dont have birds or eggs for sale as of now... Know of several suppliers of eggs thou. Bill
