Consolidated Kansas

I believe a simple, "No, I haven't what you're looking for" would have sufficed.

It's not about men vs. women, btw, and I resent any insinuation that I do not wholeheartedly enjoy the company of both genders on the threads- I really don't like that this has turned into a pissing contest, but would like to state this:

I want us to have a lovely community where we can share crap about our kids, cats, chickens, spouses, jobs, etc. I don't want us to have to wade through a thread where every other post is just a comment of little use. It is important that if you have something to contribute, you speak up and share. It's also equally important that if you haven't something to really share that will enhance the conversation, you wait until you can contribute to add anything at all...that's not to shut anyone up, and OB, I want to hear from you too.

I can do with out the single-syllabic answers that got pretty thick for a bit. That is all. Onward and upward.

Hey, KawRiverRat-Don't go away.... there's a lot here. We like to have new folks on the forum as well as the "old folks." Soooo..

AND.... I'm a bit of a river rat myself.... just different rivers!

Renee-Thanks for the info on the Kansas energy effeciency. I need to check it out. We have a fairly new house, but the water heater and air conditioner are horribly inefficient. To top it off, OUR AIR CONDITIONER WENT OUT AGAIN! We have had trouble with it every year. I think it has a miniscule freon leak, and so far no one has been able to find it. What a pain.

I'd love to get one of those instant water heater things. I think it would help our electric bill a lot!

It's too freaking hot in here, especially for someone who ends up sleeping part of the day due to crazy work hours.

Hey Your the one who started the new thread Your the one who pmed all the ladies to follow you Your the one who started all of this Not me . You don't care what I have to say because pigeons don't interest you so why would you care ? If we or I waited to contribute I would have to wade through 37 pages of you talking about feed or your opinion about swap meets and or auctions not to mention the buy from me. I still do not see any thing wrong with sending that person to the wanted to buy thread it is the best place for them to post what they are looking for. The other thing is if you Renee really want to contribute you could have replyed to the post I made to you several weeks ago about the dust bath , but no you didn't so how can you say you wanna hear from me as well ? That was a great sign saying WHO CARES WHAT HE POSTS

OK, so I did a search to figure out WTH you meant, and found that I missed a question on one of the days I was gone.

Would it have killed you to ask again when I was around? I didn't do that as an insult or anything- I just wasn't glued to my pc.

Really, this isn't the big deal you're making it out to be, and I hope we can settle down and talk about chickens and whatnot.

So:

For mite prevention, you can mix garlic powder, cayenne, and DE into a mix to deter, and if you want, you can add a little bit of tea tree oil and olive oil to make a paste to whitewash the roosts and bottoms of the nestboxes. You can dust the birds directly with the mix, dust the coop before you put down the bedding, and a new tip from Roger over at Lawrence Seed & Feed: put DE or the DE mix in a tray at the pop door so they have to walk through it everytime they come inside, so then they track it around and have it on their feet and legs when they go to roost. This is a great suggestion, as one form of mites lives in the pores of the wood during the day and thus you don't find them on your birds because they only go onto them to feed at night.

Definitely something I'll commit to memory!

GAH!! Nearly forgot: don't breathe it. You think DE is bad to breathe, try getting a snout full of garlic/cayenne/DE!! You will cry for hours.

Be mindful of this when dusting the birds, too. I actually will wear a mask and cover their head with a towel when I do this powder. Cloves are said to be a great additive, too- but I always forget to try it. I know an ant powder I've used has DE and powdered cloves. I bet it would be great.

LOL I had to shave mine this morning. I am wondering which is least attractive: lily white skin or the hair!

I'll trump you: lily-white skin, hair, and green bruises!! Moved a bunch of wood for 3 days in a row...great arms, banana legs.
