I offer a welcome to my team, and hugs. Don’t take that personally just welcome to the respect of our beneficiaries. As to "lighten up"; go to a swap meet!!! Listen to what isn’t said but eluded to in postings. Look, I am not dogging on everyone. I just think we should set an example instead of being an example. I enjoy my birds and I know each and every one of them! Rereading what you say; I have to challenge that you know every bird! Hey vets are DRs and any suggestion of breeding is unchallengeable right!!!? Totally know I challenged many of you to think! That is the idea. Humanity is such a poor word. It makes us Gods and we have no right! We are more inhumane than any being ever on this planet!

I have a lot more than 20-21 birds....whatever number it is that you've got and I used to have a heck of a lot more......and even tho I don't name them, I can guarentee I know each of them. I don't think because a person has a lot of birds that they are a hoarder.....and they certainly aren't the same as a puppy mill. Doesn't really matter whether a person has 5 or 500 birds, the 500 can be taken care of just as well as the 5.

So am I to assume this little statement means your thoughts for the last several of your posts are fueled by adult beverages?

OUCH !!! that's a sting that will hurt

Wow I missed a lot here today, that took forever to read! So, my 2¢...

I believe we're all here because we love our chickens and/or other fowl (and as chicken danz put it, not in a sexual manner

) and we come her to share/gain knowledge of the topic as a community! I believe that it's possible we are all here because of frugality as well... Unlike other pets ours feed us and help provide wonderful help around our properties! That said, where's the love man?

BUMP on the Egg Face Contest... I have a feeling this is just the beginning of what is to come throughout the month, and apparently we could all use the laugh

Hope everyone had a great day, I sure did!

Wow! Busy thread today. Here are my thoughts at 4:30 in the morning, and after consuming one glass of wine for "sleep fuel."
Am I a chicken hoarder? Heck, I don't know. Probably by some people's judgement, yes, and by other's, no.
Am I chicken crazy. I truely think so.

I've got 18 BCM eggs in the hatcher and so far none have pipped, going on day 22. These were the ones I took out of the other incubator when the heating function went kaput.

The chicks in the brooder are either going to be stressed or are gonna grow up tough with all the variations in temperature. I've got 3 BCM's, some old english bantams, black rosecomb and some lakenvelders in there. My ameraucanas have outgrown their brooders and are moving up to some small pens. A large grow out pen is in need of completion along with the new poultry barn.

I'm thinking my BCM's are starting to molt. They quit laying all of the sudden and their feathers look like crap.

Off to bed I go. I'll catch up with everyone later.

I think to some of my family they think I am crazy. I have 6 dogs, all spayed and neutered. These are rescues that where being abused. I got my first flock of starter pullets from a farmer who had to sell most of his because his wife had cancer I have added to the flock the last 2 years. I have lost some chickens also I still miss them. I am not going to say how many I have since I am over the legal limit of chickens in town. They have plenty of space a good food plenty of greens I have even planted certain things in the garden just for them. To my mom yes I am a hoarder I have to many animals to myself and others I am not. I have seen the inside of a hoarder's home I helped clean it out after she died last July. She had about 20 ferrel cats that I did find homes for on farms as barn cats. While cleaning we found 18 dead cats. It was sad. We took nearly 4 tons of stuff to the dump that was in that house. I think a lot of people who don't have chickens who read this site and think everyone of us was a hoarder or crazy. I think there are people who would think mike you are crazy for having a chicken living on your table for 3 months. I think we where all joking. I hope you don't leave this thread I really enjoy reading your post. Just remember that we do sometimes joke around and have fun. The great thing about this site is we have people who have a few as 2 hens to those who have hundreds, some that see their chickens as pets and others as livestock for eggs and meat. The great thing is that everyone on here cares about their chickens even if they are being raised to eat they are given free range time plenty of sunshine and room to run, which birds raised by big ag never get. I think that is the biggest difference is every person on here loves and respects their animals why else would they join a site like this. I hope everyone has a great weekend. I am going to try and get DH to finish my new run.

I told my self I wouldn’t say that. Just hate pity parties. Maybe I am having a hormone issue??

Any way; having "foxy" on my table taught me a great deal about the personalities of a chicken. I would probably never do it again. Still I don’t regret it.

From all of your comments I would have to admit defeat here. Not that I was accusing you of having chicken mill conditions. I just wanted to throw out my concerns. I have to agree that a person can have 200 heck 2000000 birds and give them a good place to live. I haven’t been to a swap meet or an auction in a while but have to say that when some of you talk about hording I think of seeing those birds and animals in cages living in their own waste, eating each other and the smell. I would also say I think every family should have a litter of puppies especially with kids in the house. That would be the puppy I would want to adopt for my home. So in the end I would also admit that I am no literary; and that my attempt was to engage discussion not defense. In closing this here I would still submit that a flock created from brothers and sisters is not a healthy genetic mix. Please remember that you probably are not the only one with that line of birds who put together the same genetic mixing. Also every chromosome has lethal genes. Some cause infertility some cause birds to walk on their knees. I keep that in mind in my flock, and feel that even in pure breeds we can get distant relations to help improve vitality with out loosing quality or egg color, or tufts or what ever.

! Seriously though I get where you're coming from, I won't even go to the big chain pet stores anymore just because I see how cramped and mistreated the animals are and just want to buy them all! I can't count how many times in the past it's sadly fueled pet purchases! I guess my point is we all have a responsibility to help animal that we see as in need, and as jokes fly around about being hoarders they are just that! I think we all understand the seriousness that the hoarding subject deserves, and maybe it should've been "chicken collector"... But even as I type that it takes away the humor that was lightening the mood amongst the group yesterday! I'm in no way a hoarder, and I couldn't imagine anyone I've met on this site to be either! Everyone here cares about their birds (and the birds of others even) a whole lot, so a few jokes amongst friends about it (especially directed at self) don't ruffle my feathers. People that think don't care properly for their pets do!

I am a fowl colletor myself I have 20 pigeons with to more hard to get pigeon come this Sunday seven Pheasants with more hatching four chukar with more hatching five quail with more hatching two mandarin ducks four doves with more hatching, and fourteen chickens with more hatching. I am a enthusiest nothing more nothing less. My birds are always fed before I am. Meaning if they dont have food then I dont have food an when i get money they are always feed first same with my dog.

I saved a dog from a so called puppy mill. One of my ex's bought a dog from Petland three years ago when she was working there. I lucked out and got a healthy Pembroke Welsh Corgie, and my little girl(the corgie) is spoiled rotten ask Kansasboy. Anyhow all jokes aside we are all soft hearted when it comes to any animal big or small chicken or pigeon we are all here for the same reson because we love then and get great pleasure from there very exsitence in our lives.

I LOVE MY ANIMAL'S

now how about some rain for our gardens.
