IvyWoods, I used to do a LOT of riding of all kinds. My oldest mare is an arabian! I used her for FunShow events and when I ran barrels, I generally placed with her. She is so incredibly smart- much smarter than my other two horses. I've just recently gotten down to 3 horses, a much more manageable number for me. I had 5 and sold down to my favorites that I just could not get rid of. Now I just trail ride, there is good riding around here down the dirt roads and there is a really nice horse park that I trailer out to. My friends and I always plan a girls weekend out at Kanopolis State Park and we all drive up our horses and spend a couple of nights there and ride the trails all day. My horses have lost some weight too this summer. I recently switched their feed to a higher protein/fat content to beef them up a bit so they don't get too skinny. They have the pasture and hay, but its not enough for them, so I grain them everyday. Are those two arabians ridable that you have out there? Funny about the goats eating the downed tree.

Chicken Danz, isn't it funny how much they love those misters? My turkey sits right in front of it and purposely puts her head straight into the blast of mist and then she'll move over a bit and shake her head and do it all over again when she's hot. Sounds like you were really busy yesterday with all the dirt hauling and setting up the tank to be used as a little pond. Did your dog ever figure out it was there? Cute that the ducks figured it out right away.

So- you won't believe this- but we had a tornado last night! Blew all of my lumber around that I had outside and shook the house up pretty good. We didn't have a direct hit- I think it was just pretty darned close, is all. Our power went off immediately after it and I called our electric CoOp and they said that a tornado hit some power lines and messed up trees and lines and it was a big mess. We were out of power for 6 hours while they tried to get it all sorted out. We weren't sure it was a tornado at first, either- my Dh and I looked at each other wide eyed during it and I kept asking him- is that the train out there, or could that be a tornado? We kind of laughed it off but it did freak us out- but we kept saying- NO tornados this late in summer!! So that was crazy. I woke up this morning and there are 2X4's and debris in my front lawn! Whoa!

It tore up our pool and bent some of our fence rails. I just came in from cleaning up the debris in the yard. Our pool was damaged beyond repair so we had to take it apart. It was one of those intex metal frame pools. 15 ft diameter and 4 ft deep. Something ripped a hole in it and emptied it. The wind picked it up and threw half of it over our 6 ft fence. The metal frame was bent in half. It was crazy! The chickens and the coop handled it very well though. I hope everyone else had minimal damage from the storms.

Wow! I am so out of touch. I hadn't heard there were any tornadoes. We didn't get rain again last night but lots of wind. But we did finally get some this morning. All the birds were so happy.
Nope the dogs haven't found the stock tank yet! but the chickens did. They are out there scratching in all the dirt I piled up so I suppose I will have to keep working on it or they'll have my dirt ramp destroyed! I checked while ago and they have it knocked down about a foot and are burrowing in it to dust bathe!
I am so far behind today. I over slept and the day is going way too fast.

Well, I had a great birthday yesterday! Thanks! Had a small family party last night. Yesterday my mom took me and my kids to a favorite restaurant of mine for lunch - Los Cocos, a really good Mexican place with authentic tasting foods and great service... and even better margaritas!

Thank you all for the concern about the tornado- really, that was just bizare! Who would have expected something like that in the dead of summer with these kinds of temps, no less. No one was hurt in it- just the power lines. It must have been pretty small or at least very isolated.

TNTBlake, sorry about your pool. I'm glad we didn't have any damage to our property- other than my lumber being thrown around. But what a pain to try to get rid of the pool- will your trash service pick up something like that? I hope so!

Did everyone else have really nice temps yesterday? It was so much cooler and beautiful after the storm the day before. I hope today is nice, too. I won't hold my breath though.

Holy, holy, holy!!! It's pitch dark out and sprinkling!

I pray you all are getting rain, too, in gentle but persistent waves.

Our temp was really nice early in the day yesterday but by late afternoon it was way up there again. We actually got some rain very early this morning. It sounded horrendous but it is dry again so there must not have been much.
My ducks are having a Hay day in the stock tank right now. I'm glad they finally found it as a group. I'll have to refill it though cause they are splashing water every where.
On the bright side have you seen the forecast for next week?? It is going to be wonderful. I may actually have to turn some heat lamps back on in the brooder at night.

No the trash service won't pick it up. My husband will have to take it to the dump in the truck. I'm just glad that our house, our cars, and the chicken coop were damage free. The kids are sad about the pool though!

Hi. New to the forum but wanted to jump in. I'm in Oskaloosa with my little flock. Pondering making it a bigger flock. That leads to some questions and I'm hoping you all can help. My birds eat like crazy. Do you guys have a favorite place to get feed in the Douglas, Jefferson, Shawnee county areas? I drive all over so I don't mind it being a little bit away from Oskaloosa.

Second, when/if we expand we're thinking about adding some delawares. Is there a good delaware person in these parts?

Thanks!

I can't answer any of your questions, sorry. But I'm sure someone will chime in.

I have a head cold- dizzy and congested and feeling icky. Decided I better not use any power tools or saws.. at the risk of cutting a finger off.

Bummed, though since I could have gotten another wall up today.
