So this afternoon was the afternoon from H.E...double hockey sticks.
I came home after picking the little ones up from preschool and all was well. We had lunch, and afterwards, I went to check on Seymore (turkey). She was GONE!!!! No turkey in sight! I totally panicked.. but realized after a wild run around the house, I didn't see any feathers anywhere. SO I figured she walked herself off the property and didn't get snagged. (i hoped) After 40 mins later, I wasn't too sure anymore. I kept calling her and after the second time out to check the horse barn again, I was walking back up to the house in near tears and I heard her calling to me. I turned around and she was trotting up thru the back pasture towards me. I sat down on the ground and kept calling her and she ran all the way up to me and into my lap. I hugged her and pet her and told her she was a baaaaaaad turkey.
The wind really kicked up today and it blew down a portion of the "gate" I have on the pen under my deck. It was just the top part- but enough for her to fly out. She was also very over heated and looked bad. Her wings were out from her body and dragging, and she was panting. I gave her fresh water, changed her food out and put the water mister back on her. Poor thing.
Not chicken/turkey related, but because the wind had come up so strong, it blew my pine tree over again. (it was uprooted last week in the storm and we had a piece of wood against it holding it up) Fortunately one of my errands this morning was buying root stimulater and ties for the tree, so I quickly pounded in two fence posts and staked it up and watered it down again. I've been keeping it really watered since it was damaged. So far, it looks fine. Crossing fingers.
I was going to wait until it cooled off later today to mess with it, though. SO instead, worked out there in 106 degree heat, nearly fainted and got sick. Then, after I completed the job and dragged myself inside, my hands hurt so bad. Took off my gloves and discovered I had blood blisters on the palms of my hands. Fun. Tonight they still look as red and swelled as they did earlier. I guess from using the pipe fence post driver really tore up my hands. I swear, I don't know how to have a boring day.
