Consolidated Kansas

MsjFrizzle-- oh no, not Lucy!!! She was so sweet!! That is so, so sad. I think I liked her the most- the boys called her the dalmation chicken. Sigh. I don't have any idea of what could have happened, but perhaps you are right and she ended up being an internal layer.

But you did all you could, and you are a good chicken mama. I love your new babies! And YAY!! A silkie!! Did you go to Atwoods in Derby? I wonder if you got the left over silkie that I didn't get? I thought there was one or two left when I picked out my two. I felt sad about that, but knew my DH would not go along with me getting a bunch of them. Great pics! And your coop is looking fabulous! That is great that you have the deck all fenced off now! That is such a perfect place for them under there! So excited for you! We'll have to plan another get together soon!

Ritter, your dog is gorgeous! I think it's funny that you have a box of diapers on the couch! LOL Ooooh, the joys of early parenthood! I swear kid stuff lands everywhere and takes up the whole entire place! Anyway, do you ever watch Cesar Milan the Dog Whisperer? I looooove that show! He has some great ideas of dogs that destroy property, but I think it includes a lot of exercise, walking and constant supervision at first.

Danz, hope you have a good day! I'm at home today, which is a nice change. But I better run and get house work done before it's gets too late.

Thanks, Danz

It was sad, indeed. Danz, thanks for sharing your experience. It really helps to know that it wasn't a totally freak thing, for which I was totally responsible (read: guilty

Here are the Atwoods chicks, with a BO and JG in there, too. The black feather-footed ones are from the Park City store (near my school), and the Silkie is from the one in Andover, because I had to go see what kinds THEY had, and was hoping for identification of the black ones. No one at the Park City store knew much about them, but it was during lunchtime, so the people who did know were probably on break. The Andover crew didn't know, either. Does anyone know what these guys might be? Cochins or Langshans, maybe? I did find out that they get the chicks from Ideal hatchery in Texas.

MsjFrizzle, no idea what you have, but they are so stinkin' adorable!!! Your silkie is WHITE!!! Mine are still yellow??? I wonder what color my silkies will be? I figured if they were yellow, they would just turn into white birds-- but yours is already white?! Hmm.... My silkies are 2 weeks old, now. My shipped babies are a week old now. What will you do if your silkie turns out to be a roo? I've heard they are very quiet and docile? I have zero experience, though! I hope you have a little girl there.

I love that you traveled all over to see what the other stores have! So funny!

I will have to post new pictures of my silkies and see what you all think and why they are still yellow? Do you think MsjFrizzles silkie is older than mine? Mine are 2 weeks old now as of Monday. It does seem to be a bit bigger, but it's hard to tell from the photo.

I was really, really wanting white, but now I'm doubting what I have. I know they are silkies- they have black legs and 5 toes- I think one of them even has an extra toe. Feathers on their toes, too. Plus, their little wing feathers are already 'scuffed up/shredded' looking and dont' look pretty like the other girl's wing feathers.

It's a beautiful day out there! I gotten hardly anything done around here. Cleaned up the kitchen is about it.

I have tried to keep the kids outside as much as possible, it's so warm.

Loralee, your silkies are most likely white. They could be a spotted veriety but I doubt it. They will be yellow until they get some true feathers in. This is normal.
Frizzle, I would think that chick would be a cochin. It could be a blue, black, or barred chick. The color won't be apparent until it is older.
What a busy day. It was so beautiful out but I didn't get to enjoy it. Drat!

Ohnoes. Chicken math is about to kick my butt. We have an opportunity to get into a pastured egg business on a friends land, he needs the poop on his pasture and would sell the eggs through his market stall. Lease for poop

My wife loves the idea and has designs on my garage as a big old brooder. Anybody want to buy a pool table?

There are several from the northeast area on here! I think that there are more from that area than any other! How many chickens and what breeds do you have?

Justinwrites- I wish I could find a deal like that around here! A situation like that would definitely enable me to feed my addiction! I hate living in the city because I am limited on how many I can have.

I live in the manhattan area bama. Hawkeye I did watch ceasar alot when he first came on but I get to lazy. He likes to play mind games with me now and again but is pretty good for the most part. He would rather take a nap than go on a walk but I take him once in a while. He may have to find a new home soon, my wife got laid off today and I only work a few hours a month so if one of us dosn't find a new job in the next week or two he will have to go.

It's good to know that there are several on here from this area.Looks like the flock just might get bigger.

I have mostly large breeds along with several silkies and bantys. I never try to keep too close a count because that math will get you in trouble. LOL !!!! Each breed has it's own quality that seperates them and makes them special. I love living out in the country wouldn't have it any other way!
