Hawkeye, well it's Durvet Vitamins & Electrolytes, it's all that Orschelyn's had in the way of that sort of thing to give chickens. I was looking for Vet RX & they didn't have it. I have ordered some now & it's on it's way, so next time I will have that for colds or whatever, but when you have a really sick chicken is not the time to have to order something or drive 35 or 40 miles to get it either. I wanted something in addition to the Tylan to help boost their immune system since they obviously got stressed with being re-located to my place, being integrated into a new flock, & the darned weather. I was really aggravated that Orschelyn's in Ark City has very little in the way of meds for chickens, they cater to the horse owners the most. As many people as there are in this area with chickens they really need to have more in stock for chickens & I told them that. They sell chickens, so they should have the stuff to take care of them after they sell them. I'm also trying to get things stocked up that I read on here, but can't get it all at once. I had the Tylan left over from a hen I had to treat this summer for an eye problem. I hate to give antibiotics, but unless you have a Vet who treats chickens & we don't & you want to spend the money taking them there, I would rather give them & see if it helps rather than wait & let the chicken get worse. I read on BYC on another thread that experienced breeders just don't treat respiratory problems at all & immediately cull the bird. Well I don't happen to think chickens are just a throw-a-way thing, that as soon as they get an illness of any sort you just get rid of them. Would you do that with your dog or your cat? No, I don't think so. If you have a 100 or so chickens & have extras then maybe you could do that, but when you have a limited number & they're perfectly good chickens why would you do that?
