Consolidated Kansas

Danz-My husband says hurry up and have those puppies and we will take a male, as long as they don't resemble a lab.

Wow everybody has been busy posting since my last. I've heard bank of america has been at the head of the "customer abuse". My worry with the the troops from Fort Riley filling the houses is that the developers will get the idea to build more and most of the ones that have sat empty now belong to, guess who?, the banks. I've banked with a bennington state (they are local to kansas with only a few branchs in the state) for a few years now and they arn't to horible but still not very quick to help anyone. As someone who would like to own land I have an anti manifestation veiw and hate to see the local towns running togather with these developments and hundreds of acres of good pasture being priced and zoned for such use, especially with so many older homes setting empty in town. I would rather them doze the old homes and reuse the sights for newer ones than eliminate all the ag. land. Hawkeye-you can find BOSS at almost any farm store, i'm pretty sure wal-mart even has it will the wild bird seed near lawn & garden.

You know I heard right after that dog was here that day that one of the other neighbors had shot him. I guess he was making a pest of himself elsewhere. It really didn't break my heart to hear that. I am just sure he didn't get to her. At least the egg stealing he was doing has stopped and I never did say anything to them so I guess I don't have a neighbor mad at me.

Funny how things work out like that. Huh. Well, that's one problem you won't be dealing with!

Rittert, thanks, I'm going to give Atwoods a go, but I'll price it at Walmart too and see how much theirs is (if they have it). I bet they do. Especially now with it being winter and people buying up the bird seed.

hawkeye, I was thinking I seen BOSS at atwoods in 50lb bags. Had a picture of a cardinal on in it. Of course that was in Joplin, Mo. Well, I guess I should say Webb City, Mo. They are close to being the same.

Hawkeye, I have bought the sunflower seed at Walmart, but it's cheaper at Atwoods. They had 20 pounds at Walmart for $16.95 & Atwoods had the 40 pound bag for $19.95, so I bought it there. I think the 20 pound bag at Atwoods was $14.95, so the bigger one was a lot better deal. They sometimes run it on sale too, but I don't always get up there to get it. At least with the bigger bag I won't have to buy it for a little longer.

Danz, I was looking at some Salmon Favoroles on here, those are some pretty birds. How are they at laying? They kind of remind me some of the Ameraucanas only with feathers on their feet. The roosters are gorgeous though!

My hens are laying in plastic crates. They came with mounting brackets (from Menard's), so I just hung them on the wall. I put cardboard in the bottom and a bunch of hay, and they seem to like them. They are up high under the slope of the shed-type roof, so they feel sort-of enclosed, but the silly things like to roost on the edge of one of the crates. I finally quit fighting it, because they have been roosting on one and laying in the other one. All four of my layers take turns in the clean nest (including a BM Marans). This makes it easy to find the eggs, and easy to clean out a bunch of poop.
