Welcome!! Yes, jump right on in on the chat! Glad to have you! There are several people out your way. I grew up in Olathe! Went to Tomahawk grade school.
Danz-- OMGosh!! LOVE that idea! I DO have a chicken calm enough to dress up! LOL Zorro is about the most laid back placid chicken ever. We can all post our cute/funny xmas chicken pictures! hehee!!! I'm with you, I don't recall ever going to church ON xmas day!? I'm sure that had happened, right? But it seems that xmas hasn't fallen on a Sunday in a loooong time. It's been a long day for us, we went to church and then came home for lunch, and then we went out to a house warming party and JUST got home. Whew! (oh and I'll probably incubate a few of the splash just to see how bad the red leakage is!-- maybe my cockerel will pass on his good genes to cover it up?? I guess you never know till you try.)
MsFrizzle, yes, I am in sync with you for sure and your thoughts.
Ivy, lovely story about your daughter and her houdan. I think egg collecting IS a lot of fun! I can't wait till mine start! It's going to be like xmas all over again! BTW, I was talking to our cousin tonight who just got back from Norway -- he was judging a pigeon show there for Nationals. He's been an inter-national judge for years and years now. Then he said he judged two more shows in a couple of other countries while he was there for regional meets. Anyway, like I said, he is VERY well known in the pigeon world, and he told me he thought it would be fine to incubate their first pullet eggs. He said worst case is that they aren't fertile. He's had good luck with his. He does chickens, too-- he's got Wyandotte bantams. So I'm soooo excited to get started with mine!
Trish, that is amazing that your BR girls are giving you those huge eggs! I guess I have a lot to look forward too! Even if mine don't, I'm hoping they will be nice big beautiful eggs!
Soooo.... 4 of my birds finally came out of the coop today! The two BR's and the SL Wyandottes! That was IT! The rest stayed inside. Unfortunatley, they didn't put themselves to bed. We got home a bit ago and I ran out there with a flash light to be sure no one was hiding under the coop. Sigh, all of them were piled up together under there. I had to drag them out 2 at a time. I put them on the plank and made them WALK it.
Anyway, they saw that the ramp led to the coop and they got so excited about that, they were talking to me and telling me about it! Silly girls!! Now to throw my jeans in the wash. I got a bit muddy crawling under there. I hope that doesn't happen too many more times.
