Consolidated Kansas

Well my chickens that have been laying in the nest on top of the straw were really upset because the wood rack had gotten too empty & they couldn't jump from the wood up to their nest to lay. I told DH he needed to go out today & fill the wood rack in the run & he growled at me & said he would wait until closer to the weather change. OK, whatever I said. Then he asked me if I was worried about my chickens or the wood & I told him both. He finally went out there grumbling all the way & got the mower out & the cart & filled up the wood rack. He'll be glad he did when bad weather hits, but you know he couldn't do it because I asked him to. I had just told him I didn't care if he had to go out in the blowing snow to get wood. Grrrr, why do men have to be that way? I think that may be why I haven't been getting as many eggs because the hens that had been laying up there couldn't get up there, so I have no idea where they have been laying, probably outside in some unknown place I don't know about.

I hope my granddaughter & family get moved before bad weather hits, that will be the pits moving if it's snowing, ugh. We called yesterday to see if we could have her over & the other grandma from TX was here, so that leaves us out. We were supposed to get a call when she left, but haven't heard a word. Christmas is over, so I guess we lost some of our usefulness now.

Oh, hurry up spring, I'm tired of winter already!

Hello All!
I'm from Lawrence and will be starting my own flock in the spring! I'm so excited and can't wait for the weather to warm up (not like it hasn't been super nice so far this winter!)

I'm planning on getting 3 or four chicks, plymouth/delaware/rhode island red mix. Can't have roosters here in town, but that's ok.

Just wanted to introduce myself and look forward to making new chicken lover friends in Kansas!

Where did you get your green house? I love the look of it and I've been hunting for a greenhouse. What made you want to use a greenhouse for a coop? What is the squarefoot gardening? (i looked at your page) and you have beautiful little gardening plots! I used railroad ties for my raised garden too!! But I didnt divide it up any further than that. I have one dedicated to herbs and I'm building another one this Spring to veggies.

Glad you are excited about getting started with some chickens. You will find lots of friendly people here and plenty of information and advice. Stop by often and please keep us updated on the progress of your coop. I'm interested to see how you convert the greenhouse to a chicken coop.

Yay! Another Lawrencian!!

Welcome, and do trade me a coop for the greenhouse!- I need a greenhouse and have nearly 20 coops...

Welcome to your new addiction...we're all bonkers about the birds.

Welcome Tweety! Glad to have you!
Well the holidays are finally over and I am thrilled. I am just ready to enjoy a calm day or two at this point. I'm a real be-atch today. My morning started off wrong and has just gotten progressively worse. My son got all my stuff transferred from old to new computers and so far I hate this one. I hate the key board. I keep hitting the wrong keys. It sits differently. I need to download some programs and set my printer up to work wireless but I'm not feeling patient enough to do that right now.
I had an enjoyable day yesterday at my sons, but it sure didn't seem like Christmas to me.

Welcome tweety to BYC & to the Consolidated Kansas thread! I too will be interested in seeing how you convert that greenhouse to a coop, be sure to post pics for us as you go along.

Danz, I hope your day gets better as it goes. It's hard to get used to new things sometimes, especially as we get older, I guess we kind of get set in our ways so to speak. I'm glad you got through the holidays & can settle in to routine now. It sure didn't seem like Christmas to me this year at all, I'm glad it's over.

I went out this morning & found 2 eggs broken outside the nest, it looked like some had laid in the nest & than another hen came along & rolled them out of there & they hit a shelf that sits underneath them on the way down. It doesn't make me happy to have wasted eggs. Well I had better get off the computer, we have to make a trip to Wichita this afternoon & DH already is not in a good mood. He called Amber to see if we could have our granddaughter today & she told us she didn't want to go with us & I know that's not true. They are in the process of moving, but I know our granddaughter would rather go with us than have to help with that. It's just the be-atch her mother is coming out yet again.

Danz, well that would be nice if she would on both counts, but I won't hold my breath. She has many problems. My son left her because she's a fruitcake & that's putting it mildly.
