Consolidated Kansas

Ivy, YAY on your new babies! I'm glad you got a few out of all those eggs. That would have been a bummer to have only had the one. Maybe the crazy chick is just so happy not to be alone?? LOL I don't know, but hopefully he will settle down. Maybe it's a girl and she is already establishing her dominance over everyone. Head hen syndrome? (is there such a thing??) hehe! I did figure out how to post pictures and upload them-- we may have posted at the same time-- check a couple posts back and I uploaded a picture to test it out and just for the heck of it. :)

Trish- so glad you see you again. YES!! I had bad withdrawals!! It was insane how often I kept checking BYC over and over. Geez. It's amazing how people really are true addicts to this site! (all of us included!) But really... if we're going to have an addiction, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say a chicken board is probably not as bad as it could be.

I don't think I could do meat rabbits. I'd get too attached to them. I see bunnies as very cute adorable little guys that need our protection. I don't have the heart. I could eat my own chickens, though. Especially if it were down to the wire, or I was going to create a 'meat coop' just for them. I'd be sure not to hold them and turn them into pets. I just couldn't do the killing. I'd want to drop them off and then pick up the results.

Trish, go to the homepage and at the top is a tab called Profile. Click on it and it has everything there for your siggy and your albums, etc. You can use existing pictures or whatever. :)

Well I was doing a couple of things at one time here, so IVY you posted while I was writing, congrats on your new babies. Wow, that one little guy sounds like a wild thing, must be a rooster to act like that! I hope he settles down. My black Ameruacana rooster finally settled down after about 3 days of being here. He & my Big Red rooster had a crow off for the first day he was here, all day long, it was kind of funny in a way. Then the 2nd day Blackie growled all day long, he was really angry that he couldn't get out there & beat the crap out of Big Red or even better, kill him & take over as #1. Then finally on day 3 he decided he wasn't going to be the top dog & gave it up, I was so glad he settled down. He seems happy enough now with his two girls. I hope they'll be OK in there with the cold coming. They have a dog house to get in & there is tarp on all but the door. It's about all I could come up with for temporary housing for them right now. I know some people's chickens sit out all winter long, I know one breeder that lives in Haysville that has open cages she keeps birds in year round, but I don't know how many birds she loses either.

BTW, how do I get my picture back under my name?

Trish go to my profile and click on the avatar picture. You may have to upload one. It's not much different than it was before.
SO hawkeye, with my old adobe I had a button that said "get photo". With this new version I can't figure out how to get the picture to load onto the program so I can work with it. My old program was at least 10 years old so I am sure everything has changed. I did click something and it gave me some files to choose from but not the ones I want. I keep my pictures under documents in a an image file I made myself. I hate new crap!

My adobe is probably about 3 years old-- I need a new one, too! The version I have, you go to your File button at the top. Then click "Open". Then when it opens up files, go to the top and there will be a little down arrow where you can switch what folder or disk you are looking in. Mine automatically opens up to Desktop, then I click on that and select C: which then allows to me to work my way back to the folder I need to get into. Once you find that, then you can click "open" at the bottom of that pop up window. It should open. You don't need to start a new page or anything like that to edit your photos.

Okay, below is my Adobe-- does it look like yours Danz? Click on File at the left corner, then click on Open, it brings up the pop up window that is shown below. Click on the down arrow for it to change the location that it is currently showing. Find your location. I hope that helps??? A little bit???? If you need help with the actual re sizing or editing, I can help, there too. :) Even put up another screen shot if you need it.

My birds arrived in Shawnee today. Mr Jarvis PM'd me, said they were in good shape, and that He was really pleased and very impressed with them.
Said that these were the first birds he has ever recieved that he was so happy with i think that it saying a lot for an amauter burd raiser.

I just hope that I can sell this other trio, Think I am going to put them on the auction here, and see what happens.
I know Ivy likes my burds don't cha sis.
Did your baby rosecomb hatch? I have been wondering, you have not said anything today, so I guess not. I may, once my birds get into full swing, I may even put some eggs on here to sell.
Hope everyone makes the transfer ok, now we all got to learn to navigate the site, or at least I will. Got to go explore!!!!

Brrrr, I went out & decided to go ahead & try to get my chickens in early because I need to run to Ark City & get feed. My feeders are almost empty & I want to beat the storm here & get them filled before it gets too nasty. I enticed all the chickens into the run for their BOSS, except of course the two Lakenvelder hens. Those darned hens are the only ones that won't come when I call, so they're still out in the cold & the rest are shut in. I guess I'll deal with those two when I get back. Believe me they will be at the door later on trying to figure out how to get in. Then they will run from me when I come to open the door. Then we have to play the game where I leave the door open & they run around the pen until I go away from the door & the coop, then they'll come running & go in. Silly girls, I wish they would learn that I'm not going to kill them. IVY, I'm getting little white eggs, do they get any bigger or do they just stay that small? The BC Marans still haven't laid yet. I caught one up looking at the straw nest in the run yesterday & her comb is getting more red, so maybe soon. I had some people here to pick up a couple things I was selling & they complimented me on my chickens, the husband especially liked the roosters.

checoukan, I hope you feel better soon, that has to be frightening.

I was going to put a new avatar on after I get new pics of my pups, but it's too darned cold out there now to stand out there & take pics. It'll have to wait for a better day. Well better run, so I can get some feed for these birds. I'll see you all later.

Checoukan-My rosecomb egg did not hatch. It was her first pullet egg so I am not surprised. It was fertile and had started to grow, so there is hope that I will get some hatched before long.

I've been working in the basement with DH. He tires very easily, so we are just taking it very slow and only doing what he feels like. I LOVE using the framing nailer! That air gun is awesome! BANG! BANG! BANG! and it's done! Actually we still have a long ways to go on the basement, and at the speed we are moving it will be a while. We'll probably finish just in time to move or something. Oh, well. Maybe it will help the value of the house when we sell. We have all the material and we sure won't want to move it!

Danz-My DH saw the new pic of the dog in your avatar. He said that is a beautiful dog. He loves dogs like I do. He'd bring that one home with him if he could. We both have to be careful or we would have way more dogs than we could handle. They are so hard to resist.

I was reading on the boards today that if your Avatar is fuzzy... like mine! That the old site had to reduce the size of the avatar images so small, that they no longer look good on this site-- where they don't make the avatar small any longer. So if you don't like the fuzzy look, you'll have to upload a new picture (the larger version) to replace it with. I might try that later. I'm starting to make home made lasagna for tonight. I'm getting the hang of the boards. It's not as bad as I first thought. There are a few things that are missing that are a shame... the Auctions, the Picture of the Week on the homepage... are a couple of things. I don't want to go knocking it yet until I have looked around some more. Trying to get the hang of it. So far I like our posting-- much better. I HATE that our siggies are small, grey and fuzzy and hard to read. Bummer.

Ivy, that's too bad about your rosecomb egg, but it sounds like you might have better luck next time! Glad it was at least fertile!

Trish- happy shopping! Feed those chikies! Actually, I had better top mine off before it really drops to miserable temps. Okay-- going to get on that now! ;)

OH-- and one more complaint! The typed in smilies don't work! And it's too much effort to go drop down the smilie menu and select one. I always just typed mine in. Argh.

I took the cat to the vet for shots and got some medicine for Marshmallow. Just some preventative antibiotics because she didn't clean out last time very well. I just stick them in some fresh hamburger and she won't even know she took them. She has been in hiding all day. I wonder if she is trying to "nest" somewhere. She's been out a couple times but I don't know where she was. She is normally at the back or front door waiting for someone to come out and give her attention. It is really cold and windy here.
I just went out and rigged up a heat lamp and gave Marshmallow my quilt I've slept with for years. It was an old homemade one but it was just the right cover. Dh bought a store bought one for me for Christmas.
Any way I called her and she settled right into the big dog house on the quilt wagging her tail. I think she is very content to stay there and keep warm. So maybe she'll decide to have her babies there without much more persuasion. She took her first pill and begged for more. Nothing like some fresh burger to make a dog happy to take a pill.
Me and my big mouth. I suggested last night that DH and I go to Ottawa to eat tonight. He is holding me to it. I hate getting out in this weather but he gets cabin fever if he stays around here too much.
