Consolidated Kansas

Ivy, I'd be a little reluctant to do that if I were you. If your doctor did not release you to go back to work and you do, If you would injure your foot or your knee work comp would be denied. Just sayin'. If he needs your help then he needs to make safe provisions for you to do the work.
I know what you mean by personnel problems. I was a lead at my last job. I could tell people what to do etc and I was responsible for the work that was done but I had no authority to discipline, hire, or fire anyone. It was a very uncomfortable situation. I could make recommendations to that end, but of course rarely did my recommendations effect anything that happened.
It is nice for a boss to have confidence in you though. My last boss was awesome that way. I felt I left a friend when I retired.
I'll PM Bama and see what we can work out after bit.
On the eggs for babies I normally wisk the egg white and yolk up into a froth and stick them in the microwave for just long enough to start hardening then mash them up some more. They remain pretty moist that way and the babies love eating them. Of course that is just to get stubborn babies to eat. I've never done it with a syringe for those that can't eat.
Hawkeye I had to laugh at your post. That so sounds like something I would do. It seems I spend half my day saying "Whoops!" cause I've run something into something or failed to notice something in my way. I tell DH that I really need him just to fix the things I break. Looks like I have to get a new engine for my ZTR mower. More money to shell out!

Hawkeye, so sorry about your tractor/barn troubles! Hubby would kill me if I did that with our tractors -- well he wouldn't kill me but I think he would be pretty mad!!

I don't drive the big lawn mower except out in the orchard because it is so hard to maneuver. Rarely do I drive the big John Deere tractors -- I prefer the little antique Ford tractor. Hope all goes well when you tell him>>>>

Ivy, good luck with your decision! I will be praying for you in making the right decision!
Cute video!!! My DH got home and I told him. He is NOT happy. UGH. He's all --- now when we are probably going to have to sell the house and move, you kill the barn which WAS a big asset...

Crap. I'm the one that usually uses the tractor and uses the lawn mower-- it's a big one, too. A big zero turn, but I think it's easy and fun to drive, so I really like mowing. I usually like using the tractor too, but not when I use it to destroy. Bleah. What a crappy morning.

Trish, I hope you have a great weekend and that your animals are all fine when you get home!

Hawkeye, so sorry about your barn and tractor woes - what a bummer. I hope it ends up that it can be fixed easier than you first think. Perhaps the panel that is ripped open can just be replaced?

Ivy, I feel for you having to make a decision like that. Let us know what you decide. I wouldn't want to work the night shift either so I can't blame you there.

Danz, congrats on the MW's hatching!

Hawkeye-Oh, what a bummer about the barn. You know, when you know how to do something and then something like that happens, it is often for a reason. You were probably not only physically wiped out from the work, but mentally stressed from the wasps. That kind of stuff has a bigger effect on you than you realize sometimes. You may not have had to use your epi pen, but I'm sure you had a huge adrenalin rush of your own running away from those wasp, and once that adrenalin wears out it leaves you physically and mentally "down."

No, I can't use a wheelchair. I can walk just fine. I just can't be on my feet for 8 hours, which is what my job expects. It's a management position, but all managers there are "hands on" and expected to do the physical work as well, and in the back room it can be very physical, including moving freight, enire pallets of stock, climbing ladders to fetch, sort and bin or store items. It's a pretty demanding job. If they will just let me sit down and do scheduling, computer tasks, etc. every so often to get off my feet, I think I can do it..

I wouldn't be going against my Dr.'s advice. He knows I know my limits and he released me for my knee, just not my foot...at my own request. My knee is doing great. He was very surprised at how much I was able to do. He said all I need to do is call him and let him know when I am ready to go back and he would release me. The whole decision is up to me, as far as when I feel I can do the job. That is what I am struggling with, too.

Ivy,I know you want to go and work but I would make sure that I was 100% before returning to work.A lot of insurance companies will stop paying on DR. bills if you return to work even though he released your knee. Only you know when you are ready and can do your job like it requires. Just think of your health first!

I might be tempted to try your egg microwave trick later. I think Sticky is now eating the wet food pretty good. I bet he might try the egg mixture, too. I'll do that later. Right now, I'm sitting down and staying here for a bit. I just was out screwing in the lattice for shade up on my deck pen for the silkies. I'm needing to get everything done TODAY. Oooohhh.. and you know what is so funny??? My DH is all grumbling about how I didn't finish mowing the rest of our acreage out by the tree line (like he cares??!! He never mows, and never says much about it??) Think he's in a bad mood from me killing the barn. Anyway, I've been telling him for WEEKS that my ZTR needs the blades sharpened and that the belts and oil filter need replaced. I'm getting upset about it. That is something I suppose yeah, I could do too. But I don't want to!!! So today, (maybe to relieve some stress) he goes out there and gets on my ZTR and the first thing it does is backfire (the timing is off a bit) and then the belts start squealing! Plus he can't cut a darned thing!! He brings it back up to the house as I'm out there once again working my butt off putting up the lattice and he says he's going to Lowes to buy belts, etc for the mower. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!

I guess it took HIM wanting to use it to finally listen to me. Anyway, Danz, I'm sorry about your engine, that is a real bummer. :( My mower is 5 years old, but I use it a lot and it doesn't get the maintenance it really needs. If it were up to me, I'd have it done each spring without fail. There is a company that comes to your house for like $110 and they will change your belts, filters, and sharpen your blades for that amount! I think it's totally worth it. But I talk myself blue in the face each spring begging my DH to let me spend that money for that guy to come out. My Dh says he can do it himself for less. I'm sure he can.... but WHEN!?!? UGH. When I go back to work, things are going to better maintained around here. (now if we can stop myself from running them into the barn, I'll be okay)

Thanks, Ivy, I think I was out of my mind for sure. Foggy headed or something. I wouldn't go back to work if they are going to expect you to do all of that manual labor when your foot is hurting like that. If you could work something out and have EVERYone understand what your limits are, then maybe that could work. I'm so glad your knee is doing well, but that is a real bummer about your foot.

David - Here are some picks of my BA pullet.

This is Sage at 12 weeks.

Here is Sage (BA) and her sis Paprika (NH Red) at 12 weeks.

Both of their combs are just now starting to turn red. Also, notice on the BA the lack of saddle feathers and very short tail feathers. Most of the roos I have had would have had gi-normous combs that were very red at about 7 weeks. At least you can have something to compare your birds to.

Hawkeye your poor DH is just worried about what the future will bring. He'll probably laugh about this later when the pressure is off. I'm afraid I'd be the same way. I tend to fret about feeling secure financially. I've never been well off but I need to feel sure the money is going to keep coming in. I'm kind of dealing with that right now too. Dealing with re-evaluation for my disability insurance. It is enough to make you want to pull out your hair.
I have 4 turkeys hatched now. Trying to be patient and not interfere with it. I moved the first three into a bin and gave them cooked egg and chick starter together. I made sure they each got a drink of water. One of the babies ate some on his own but now all three of them are napping. The 4th one isn't dry enough to take out of the Hatcher yet.
I'm still feeling kind of crappy and I haven't gotten anything done but get the brooder bin ready for the turkeys and feed and water everyone else. I'm trying to decide what to do here. I can't really pack up chicks and expect them to have enough warmth, feed, and water for one night. The little guineas can escape from anything so I am on the fence about taking them. The bigger birds will be fine in cages over night. I don't want to haul up tons of birds and not sell them either. Decisions decisions. I've got to go out and build a divider in my Serama house and pick out which ones to keep. Better get busy.

CHANGE OF PLANS AGAIN! I will be driving the red Jeep Grand Cherokee to the swap meet in Topeka. Sold some birds here, so everything should fit in the Jeep.

Month old silkies should be big enough not to fit thru a wire dog kennel. You should take a picture so we can see how big they are now. I'm sure they are fine, but maybe they are just really slow to grow.

Hawkeye - finally took a pic, It's not the greatest, but it has the feeder in it so you can reference it for size. They are still in the small chinchilla cage right now. They'll be 6 weeks on Monday. Amber is the tiniest of them all, she's the one that had the spray leg. I hope they aren't too small. I don't know what i'd do to make them grow bigger. hehe
