Contest Ideas & Volunteers Needed!

I love the short story idea!

Impersonations... You could sign up to impersonate another BYCer (only with their permission) for a day, and whoever pulled it off best won.

That could be fun.

I saw this thread a few days ago, knowing that I would have ideas. Lots of them, but they escape me until just the right moment.

So, I came on tonight, and see that there is a "short story" idea, which is close to my idea. Mine is a bit more specific.

1) I would like to see some touching, warm-hearted stories as one contest.

2) As a separate contest, I would like to see the "funniest", and "most comedic stories".

3) Another: Specific, one or two liners on the silly things people say about farm fresh eggs.

4) The "dumbest coop design" with pictures AND why it's a dumb design. This could be both comedic and educational. For example, a friend bought me two "breeding coops" as a gift. The "builder" had never owned nor cared for a chicken in his life. It didn't occur to him to create a place (door) to allow food and water to go in, let alone to easily check eggs and clean the coop.

5) The "sweetest picture" contest with a) your birds and your children OR b) your birds and your other pets.

6) "Funniest thread" contest.

7) (Almost forgot this one) " Dumbest bird move". What is the dumbest thing your bird has done? (Of course, comedy would be necessary.)


I will volunteer to assist/manage ONE contest.


(BTW, I am a writer, for whatever that matters. I'm also opinionated, which is probably more important here for this purpose.

I really like the short story, recycle/freecycle page, and photo contest (w/seperate categories) ideas!

What about every month have member write a 'help' article, the winner each month would win a GFM to be theirs or gifted and also have their article displayed on the sites home page for all to see (for the first week of the month or whole month)!

Secondly, I'm really big into philanthropy and promoting it... Why not have a quarterly contest and at the end of each quarter the person that raised the most in donations would get to pick what charity everyone's collected donations would be sent to and would also win a GFM ofcourse!

I would gladly run a contest if help is still needed, just let me know

To get members using more areas of BYC than just the community forums, you could have monthly "Tudy's Travels" contests - kind of like "Where's Waldo". Strategically place her in 1/2 a dozen spots at the first of every month - recipe section, coop section, learning section, sticky threads, etc. It's a huge sight - you could give vague hints as to where she might be visiting that particular month. First person every month to find all six of her pics wins.

I think a most posts in one day contest would be a good way to give away a GFM. you wouyld post your starting number of posts then someone would check with the next post. then befor the day ends you would have to post your final number then someone would do the math and see who wins.

A children's guide to chicken keeping... for all the kids that want chickens.

You know with all the things you need ahead of time... (coop/brooder/feeder/waterer/time/knowledge/bedding/nest boxes)

How to get only females (from a feed store or hatchery)... and how to successfully keep male/s

Incubating and hatching eggs

How to make sure you chickens are healthy

How long they live... (9+ years!)

-winner would get 6 months-
-illustrator/photographer (if different) would get 6 months-


All facts must be accurate in the book to 'pass' inspection (so no stories about hatching in a solar powered robot that also vacuumed rooms and sang to the egg or anything)

Opinions must be the most general correct accepted opinion... (like acceptable brooder temps or number of times to turn an egg or whatever.)

Pictures must be original to the 'book' and the original copyright holder must be a participant

The big page of chicken emergencies...

searchable with all of the common 'cures'

reward for every 10 diseases/common injuries researched and turned in in correct format = 1 month ???
