I am sure that they are. I think it is probably the stereotype of the production housed chickens that is coloring my opinion.

I think the Browns are georgeous. I was surprised to know that they were leghorn. So that is likely proof that it is my bias.

I was actually happy to think that I had a red one when the hatchery guessed that. And disappointed when I saw those pink earlobes.

They don't show in the picture well enough.

See.... Proven wrong again! That is a beautifully plump hen. And not as tall and lanky as my mind imagines them to be.

Thanks I have better pics of them outside, but not on the computer. I really didnt like leghorns at first either, but have really grown to love them. That one hen is always broody too. Huh go figure,, they say they are non setters

I always thought of leghorns as skinny too, but they're not that thin once they are full grown. They're not thin birds, but are not as plump as barred rocks, orps, austrorps etc.

This is one of my leghorn hens next to an easter egger. They do look a little thinner when they are out running around.

Yes thats a mirror in my old coop last winter. I got the idea from some one in Canada. I live in Wisconsin and it is very cold for a looooooooong time. lol So I had a southern exposure window and a mirror to 'catch ' more light for them in the winter. As you can see it did get pretty dirty by the end of the winter.

Both very beautiful!

Hey AZ, I hope you don't mind that I posted a link to your page in the announcement of the winner on my contest page.

By the way, my sister lives in Mesa and works at Scottsdale memorial. When she first moved down there in the 80's, she lived just on the edge of Glendale.... Back when all of the apartment complexes were popping up and connecting all of those towns in the southend.
