Continuing this job search and feeling pretty dang defeated about it...

Oops, I meant aquaponics, not aquaculture.

And always remember that you can create jobs too. You typically have to be pretty darn aggressive or build a loyal, often local, customer base for that though.

Ah, you are in a pickle, aren't you? Since you don't want to move (can't blame you there), and have 300 acres to work with, have you thought about starting your own business?

As you are well aware, 300 acres takes a lot of horsepower to be cultivated, and you must have the knowledge to keep things growing. All that land, girl, I'm drooling with envy. I know what I'd do but then you are not me. I don't have a degree of agriculture so I don't have the knowledge to work the land like you do. I've seen those with independent streaks start out on their own and create a nice little income for themselves. I've seen goats put to work and used to supply meat and milk for people who like that particular product. I've seen a self sustaining farm run on solar power become a local success. I've seen a gal turn her herd of grass fed beef into a money maker for her. A few have gone on to teach at local college.

They all had one thing in common: a degree in agriculture. They started at the bottom and worked incredibly hard to reach their goals. Some folks think education is a waste of money. My reply is that nobody can take an education away from you. You can lose your house. You can lose your car. You can lose your land. But the knowledge in your brain is exclusively yours. Nobody can take your knowledge away from you.

Keep learning all you can about the field you want to be in, and always ask yourself: WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO?

Ah. A dilemma. If you refuse to move and there are no jobs in your area, you have 2 options. You can create your own job, or you can be unemployed.

Nobody is going to create a perfect job for you out of thin air, except for maybe yourself.

I gave up looking for work 10 years ago after everyplace I applied to told me they were looking for someone younger....I didn't give up tho, I just took my hobbies and turned them into my business.
Now I am my own boss and if I want a day off I just take it....Everything I do is Farming related and I do it on 2 1/2 acres....No I don't have the schooling but I never stop Learning and since My business started making my living and then some I have been bombarded with job offers .Even had The Republican party out here trying to get me to run for congress.
