Controversial Discussions

I'd like to pose a correction: you can never go wrong by doing the right thing for you. ;) Come on guys. Neither way is right everywhere, every time, to everyone. Assuming they are is where the ignorance lies. Perhaps we have to learn to disagree on things, and accept that different lifestyles and people support and complement each other. Labelling any type of lifestyle as the right one is too much of a blanket statement, don't you reckon? :p

I also disagree with the idea of everyone producing food and goods for themselves. Why not just seal yourselves into a cave as well? I think society is a good thing. We can all help others in some way and be helped in return, and eveyone is the better for it. If someone is very good at making clothes and another is good at growing crops, would it be okay to let the second guy go around in rags and the first one starve? If everyone has to do everything for themselves, many people wouldn't be able to do anything well, as they'd have to put a lot of effort in providing for other aspects of their life which they don't find so easy, and as a consequence they'd neglect their talents and skills, which would go to waste.

And I haven't even gotten to the people with disabilities or other needs who can't even do some things, let alone well! When one is sick, is he also expected to still have to provide for himself? (could also be applicable to female) If everyone grew only for their families a lot of people would struggle. It is also silly to talk as if eveyone's existence revolves around food. I personally don't want to go back to a time when the only aim in anyone's life was to feed themselves and raise a family. But maybe I'm just biased towards the simple life because I'm a city slicker, and life seems much more awesome with all the opportunities available to people as a whole in this day and age. :)

There would be no doctors with everyone raising their own food.

I did get a few PM's, I think the list was growing, I just came here instead of replying.

I dig the open mind brain falls out quote. I fear my mind is more like a glass of milk. It hold a fair bit, but it gets to a point where when I tip more stuff in something spills out. I think the first out was algebra closely followed by the periodic table hahahaha

Another one I was thinking of while cooking tonight was country vs city debate. People seem to bang on about where they were raised and how important they are, yet always forget the other. Country people seem to really dislike city people, forming the opinion they are rude, fast paced and have no idea about where their produce comes from or how hard the rural secotr have it (which are all true to some extent in some ways, but hardly the 'rule') Yet country people struggle with city life, traffic and the concept that without cities, there would be no farms. No point in producing 1000's of tons of produce annually if there is no populace to consume it.

Both city and rural life takes a balance and nurturing to ensure both survive to keep the circle going. Neither is 'better' than the other IMO, just people that are better suited to each lifestyle.

I used to know the whole periodic table, minus actinides and lanthanides. Alas. I now seem to have better things to work on with my memory. Such as Pi :p

Nowadays I can get up to niobium, and after that things get a bit dodgy, because I forget the order.

Well I'm not entirely sure as to the answer to that question, but I'm assuming because people grow their own food, there'd be no need for them to go out and train to be doctors so they can earn a salary and buy food from the supermarket.

Or maybe just because farming is a pretty full-time job, especially when there's vegetables, grains, meat and other processed foods (like jam, bread, etc.) for every person or family to take care of!

That's fine, I understand. Homework always comes first, of course. Interesting things, unfortunately, second.

I have been quite busy during this time as well. I have three tutorials to do each week, practical prep every second and summative assignments every two or three. I wasn't expecting this sort of workload, but I'm enjoying myself. :p

I don't have internet access on Saturdays (besides phone, but I hate typing on that minuscule keyboard) so I'll probably have to reply to your posts/questions some time during the week, or Sunday, and you can check them on weekends. Is that okay?
