In my personal experience, rats are just as dirty as mice...and not hygienic at ALL. And in a way, it's worse, simply because they're bigger. They peed on each other, and cleaning the cage was like a "nightmare!" Go with whatever you really want, if your parents approve... I think the rats are more fun, but the mice are smaller so easier to care for, and cheaper, 'cause they eat less. :) Also, in my opinion, mice aren't very good PET pets, but great, "cheap critters" to own if you like watching your critters and don't care so much for holding them. And from personal experience, mice don't bite as much as some rats, it seems.

I think you should listen to your dad. He doesn't want rodents in his house, why push the issue? I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but there's something to be said for respecting what your parents have to say.

Plus, ewwwwww.

Never had Mice.
Never had Rats.
But have to say I’d vote for rats instead. They come in more colors. They are bigger so easier to cuddle. They are a bit sturdier than a mouse.
A rat will be happy to sit on your shoulder. If they get loose their easier to find.
Are you sure you want mice?

Rats come in more colors? I've found it to be the opposite from all the mice and rats I've seen (in person, and in pictures!). :D

Mice are often created with such beautiful colors and patterns! (Not saying rats aren't, though :) ).

I am an animal lover. Me and my 4 siblings have 5 guinea pigs, 8 chickens and 1 dog [who is really my parents]. 4 of the chickens and one of guinea pigs are mine. I would really like some pet mice. Would love them, really. I have wanted them for about a year now, so I am quite sure I want them. Dad, however, I think, doesn't really want pet mice. I am not a big fan of wild mice, I mean, they are cute, but a bit of a nuisance. I only want pet colours like patchy etc...Not natural brown. I have saved up and am very responsible. How do I convince my Dad to let me get pet mice?
That’s the equivalent of me trying to convince my Mum to get a mini pony or a brumby
