same here

But if you're dealing with thousands of them, I would kill them too. (I just wouldnt eat them!) Like many others mentioned, we're talking about house sparrows. Those aren't illegal to kill. In smaller numbers they aren't bad, but in large colonies nesting spaces are hard to come by and these pest birds will often kill the eggs and chicks of many native and more desirable songbirds. (They are known to attack bluebird nests and peck the babies to death!) But if this was my problem, before I would go kill crazy of the sparrows, I would first find the best option to securing the coop/feed from these birds.

This is why I absolutly love my crows

they swarm my front yard and keep the sparows away

yes u can eat them ,they are safe ,just cook them thoroughly as u would chicken

it is leagal to kill them and their is no limit on how many you can kill. I would eat them if I needed to ,but not many venture into my yard anymore

if more people in the us know you could hunt them (any time of year to !)we wouldn't have such a problem with them now. I am a bird lover and have been a bird watcher for over 20years , but this particular speicies is very detrimental to other birds and I firmly believe more needs to be done to controll their numbers. Try simmering them in a crock pot with buffalo sauce

I am going to 3rd this. Why not get some t-posts, some fine wire and put it over your vegetables the sparrows are eating. I mean good lord, they are doing what nature intended them to do. Sure makes me wonder about the mental status of the OP by what they said and how they said it...

While their nature is to eat, house sparrows don't belong in the US. Their numbers do need to be thinned out. Although like others said, sparrow-proofing the area would be the best option.

There are a lot of things that don't belong in the US but it doesn't mean I am going to run out and kill every living thing in that species because it is doing what instinct and nature dictates it to do. I would seriously wonder about someone who has such blood lust over something so minor that can be fixed with some work and sweat and a bit of money. Nothing to get worked up over either.....

House sparrows are an introduced species that is very damaging to the environment and to indigenous species.

The problem with having excessive compassion for introduced species is that it leads to forgetting the impact these species have on indigenous animals and plants. West Valley Community College used to have a large population of a native California quail species; then students established a "feral cat colony." No more quail; no more many other bird and small mammal species and far fewer reptiles and amphibians.
