But if you're dealing with thousands of them, I would kill them too. (I just wouldnt eat them!) Like many others mentioned, we're talking about house sparrows. Those aren't illegal to kill. In smaller numbers they aren't bad, but in large colonies nesting spaces are hard to come by and these pest birds will often kill the eggs and chicks of many native and more desirable songbirds. (They are known to attack bluebird nests and peck the babies to death!) But if this was my problem, before I would go kill crazy of the sparrows, I would first find the best option to securing the coop/feed from these birds.
