cooling off your chickens

Went back to your previous thread. Just wanted to say they might need you to show them that it's food. They are still really young so maybe peck at it with your finger to mock a Momma hen? Is the tarp not creating shade? Can you post a picture of your tractor?

I have tried that too, I even crawled in the tractor to try and get them to understand. nothing works, the tarp is fully blocking sun, it was just really hot for the leghorn, humiture of 99. the tarp covers about 2/3rds of it when unfolded all the way. I even lift up the ends to give them a nice crossbreeze. I have no shade til the late afternoon.

I think my chicks are still too young to appreciate real food. they do not touch anything I try to offer them. They don't have a clue what to do with it all. I mean what chicken doesn't like lettuce, peas, berries, corn?
Lol! My chickens are broken too! Everything they are supposed to like, they don't! So silly! I make ice cubes in a muffin tray. I added the electrolytes powder to the water and I put corn in and freeze. My girls love them! I'm going to try watermelon next!

I dislike my style freezer, the freezer is on the bottom and small, I don't have room for icetrays. I use the auto ice , and usually go through it all by the end of the day. yesterday, I tried, a pan of water with frozen peas and ice, and a berry smoothie. I had to chase her around with the hose, she hates me now, but it cooled her off.

Mine hate the hose too! When I water the plants around the coop, they act like I'm chasing them with an axe! Chickens are so funny!

I get that! I think she's finally understanding that it helps her. I just had to do it cuz she was beginning to pant and she didn't fight so much this time. I can tell it helps her, cuz afterwards, other than her not panting for a short time(about an hour), she begins to eat and drink again, instead of just lay there.
