Actually, though it looks disgusting, maggots can be helpful to the healing process as they remove dead tissue.

Wow that was really cool, I just googled it. I didn't know that maggots could be used for that. Actually better than surgically removed. Just be careful of the variety as apparently there are kinds that don't differentiate. :sick
 
She is alive! I am treating her with with vetrycin (hope I'm spelling that right)
She will for sure be blind on one side but she is eating,drinking and this morning was very vocal ! I have her in the laundry room still from heat and flies until her head is healed more, we let her out to the pool for an hour each day and she swims. I think if she gets through this week with out infection or flies -she's gonna make it!!!!!
That's great news. I am always surprised at how well they heal. I have had poultry with wounds that would have killed any other animal, and they heal up pretty well. I bet she loves her daily swims, helps to clean out the wound too I bet.
