The live-trap option is not something to discount if you are pressed for time. Prepare to use carcass as bait. See if your animal control folks will take raccoon and dispose of for you, likely for a fee.

...I could try to gas it, I do know how to make a co2 chamber. But I don't think I have anything big enough to do that with. If I trap it would A.C take care of it?

Maybe call animal control first and ask if they will assist... if not you can likely wrap the live trap in a tarp or plastic drop cloth used for painting etc, and then run a hose from the exhaust of your car, in order to gas it.

If you choose to use the gas method, just remember to be discreet so neighbors or children are not witness....as it could be upsetting for some who do not understand the situation.

I should add that while the gas method is quick and effective, you should probably look into your local / state laws to be sure you don’t do something that could get you in legal trouble. So be informed and discreet.

Where do you live? If your in Tn somewhere I would be more than happy to bring you some of my chickens. I have some BR, Lakenvelder, Colombian Wyandottes, Comets, a Russian Orloff, some Australorps. Some are in the 2yr old range but still laying.
Im getting a new batch end if this month so will be culling some of the older hens. I normally just sell them but would be more than happy to give you some.
I hope you can find a solution to your raccoon problem. Can you own s pellet gun? You can get some that are very quiet.

I could. I do have the wire for I think but everything else I'm clueless on.

It is really easy to set up hot wire! It took maybe an hour to wrap six strands around my entire run. I use a small animal charger that I've mounted inside the coop to keep it from getting wet, a piece of rebar as a ground and a bit of hose to insulate the wire where it runs from the inside to the outside of the coop.

In most instances where I have bumped off a predator, it was already getting birds. The same or less effort can be invested in keeping the predators away away.

Do air rifles count as weapons? .22 pellet guns will kill them outright lights out at rangers up to 50 to 75 yards and .177 will do if it's in a live trap. For raccoons and traps I like dog proof traps, Google for example of those. You need strong hands to set them. Coons are sometimes hard to get in live traps, if possible put the live trap in a box with only the business end open because they will reach through the wire to get bait.
