Coon or Fox, Help identify this scat

The best 'coon trap I've ever seen is the Duke "dog proof" trap. I had a 'coon problem and caught two with a live trap, but the rest of them wised up and would not trip the live trap's trigger. I bought a Duke DP trap and caught 5 more in rapid succession. Only bad thing about the Duke trap is, there's NO way to free the 'coon from the trap unless he's deceased.

Ordered the Duke trap. Should be here Friday.

I didn't boil mine, and it worked great. Didn't boil it for any of the other 4 I caught with it, either. I did spray it down with WD40 after rinsing the blood off of it, though. I used black oil sunflower seeds for bait. Just set the trap, placed it, then sprinkle the seeds around and into the trap. I'm sure other things would work as well, but that's what my 'coons were stealing from a bird feeder.

I was quite shocked and slightly amused that people use live traps for foxes and put a chicken n one end of the trap as bait! Poor poor terrified chicken! Its like going underwater in a shark cage to see sharks, but then again if it works and doesn't kill the chicken it might be character building for it( they say near death experiences are) mind you no one agreed with my idea to push my husband down the stairs to see if it built his character

I also met one bread who uses his culled chicks to feed the foxes!!! I think because he has a lot of land the chicks are left a few acres away, dead of course and the fox can take them for his cubs
Nice idea but I can imagine when there is no food left he will come closer looking for it?

The Duke DP trap will only work with 'coons, and there's no live bait involved. It requires the 'coon to stick his hand down into the trap and pull up on the trigger to snap it, and 'coons ( and maybe 'possums) are the only ones who are able to do that. It does necessitate killing the critter to release its hand from the trap, though.

Could it be chicken poop? Expelled during attack?
[sorry...kinda gross]

Have seen chicken poop like that.

Any prints?

I guess it could be, don't really know. No, I couldn't find any prints. The ground is pretty dry right now.

Theoretically, boiling the trap removes any human scent that might deter the animal from being caught. I have not found it necessary with 'coons and the Duke DP trap.
