Actually its anything in that color family. Oranges, pinks, reds, etc... That's why you never use leg bands those colors. I think they associate it with something to eat. By the way, I LOVE your coop! You guys did an awesome job on it!

Got sooo much done today! Worked from "Cant see, to Cant see". But I shot a ton of pics for you all. Today's project was the egg boxes and the Poop doors. Thanks so much to everyone this morning for helping me settle on the size for my egg boxes.

First thing I got out my trusty saw and chewed great big holes into the side of my coop. I was going to do the poop doors and make the egg boxes later, but I found I couldnt position the poop doors without know ing how big my egg boxes were going to be.. sooo.....

Then I started with the boxes themselves. I ended up using some scrap lumber that the lumber yard sends with deliveries to stack wood on.. it has a groove in the middle perfect for the divider between each box.

then some backing boards, slapped some siding on it, and set the first door.. also used some scraps to set the angle of the roof line for the boxes. Shingles to be added tomorrow morning.

more trim and paint, and then I put the poop doors on either side. plus locks and such..

Aint nothing gettin my eggs!!!

on the other side of the poop doors is the poop tray which you will be able to slide out. It will have swing down legs that will support it. You then put the wheel barrow under it and scrape out the poop shavings. Also will be used when we totally clean out the coop with water and such. There is one on either side of the egg boxes.

They still need some touch up paint, as the wood was pre painted before I put the pieces together..

The girls were busy while I was cutting holes in the coop with painting the inside of the coop white for better light.

Tomorrow is vents, and a bit more wire work. Hang the feeder and the waterer and install the cable t.v. Then the birds can move in!!

more pics tomorrow.

Actually it was not far from the truth ,when I took the babies out for their first field trip to the garden, one of them sat down in the dirt next to the transport, another sat down right in front of me and one hopped up into my lap... and then my silkie hopped onto my shoe, then my lap and then she decided hiding under my arm was the place to be. Those were my scaredy chickens... the others were little more bold they actually moved a foot and half away from momma!
They all were little more bold the next day, when we went out(they still didn't range more than 3 feet away, but getting braver), but that first day was a hoot.

Up at 6 a.m. it's a bit chilly out. Had a horrible nightmare last night. After all the loooooong hours we've put into the coop, I dreamed I woke up this morning and it looked like this again:
