For the past two or three years, my family has always been planning to build something. None of those things have ever been built because my dad never builds them and my mom hated the idea of building anything without his help. I believe I've finally convinced her that we have to do it ourselves if we want it done though. We plan on moving our chickens to the fenced in backyard but they need a coop. I like the idea of a hoop coop but my mom thinks we should use pallets and t-posts then put the panels over them, attaching them to the pallets. That way we don't have to bend the panels as much. I don't really like the idea but does anyone have advice for this kind of situation? How do I convince my mom that a regular hoop coop will work just fine? Are there reasons why my mom's plan is better that I haven't considered? Is there another type of coop that may work better?

I realize that the panels may be hard to bend but I can get my brother's help and I can probably get my dad to help if I'm persistent enough.

Pallets block wind and sun and can make a sturdier coop. They also provide more protection against larger predators such as bob cats, dogs and coyotes . You can make a bigger hoop coop by using pallets on the bottom part and attaching hoops to the top.

This hoop house has green house plastic over it and a white tarp to block excess sun but if you attached wire instead of green house plastic it could be a coop provided you add more ventilation.Pallets can make a cute hoop house.

That is an interesting design but I feel like my mom would be hesitant to add boards over the holes in the pallets. She was never a fan of any type of woodworking, even something so simple. From the way she told it to me, it sounded like she wants to wants to put a post through each pallet then fill it with layers of cardboard and cover it with a tarp, maybe with some wire in between.

You actually have to add a board across the top and bottom of the pallet before you cover the gap otherwise it still leaves a gap lol
