My thoughts are with you Silkie. We had a house fire in May and I lost all of my parrots. As I'm reading this I have tears in my eyes just thinking about it. Your birds would of died from the smoke first. Probably long before they even had time to panick.Hopefully thats some comfort. Just take it one day at a time, it'll get easier. Maybe if you incubate the eggs from them it'll bring you some peace.
I am so sorry for your loss. You and your Dad are in our families thoughts and prayers. Hopefully you have a wonderful hatch. Just remember your lost chicks often, they will always be in your heart.
I was shocked when I read your post! I am so sorry for your horrible loss. I hope the insurance company comes thru, and that the eggs you incubated hatch with lots of success.
With the situation so fresh, it's hard to believe, but "what does not kill us, makes us stronger" is so true.
Turn the eggs you have a couple times a day until you can get all of them in the incubator and wait for the new beginners!
I've been a volunteer firefighter for 20 years and to this day the grief caused something so useful and beautiful is just overwhelming.
Hang in there Silkie. We all wished we livee closer we'd be there even more to help you through this!
Oh my goodness - I'm so sorry for your loss! I almost cried when I read your post! How fortunate you are to have collected some eggs before this awful tragedy; be strong, and best of luck with hatching!!
That's just the absolute worst thing...I'm so sorry. I've never heard of spontaneous combustion of chicken litter/poop--it just seems to be too damp to do that. The first thing I thought of when I read your post was arson. Thank goodness that you and your father are safe!
