Coop floor- pressure treated? Thompsons water seal or paint?

You'll be glad you went with lino. Cleans up great. I added 1/4 round to all the edges and caulked it really well to make sure no spilled water would get under it.

Thanks to all the answers and advice. We bought a pre fab 8x12 piece of linoleum for $48 at Home Depot. I am sure I will love it when I have to clean it vs wood, and no seams for water to get under.

That's what we did too. We also caulked all around the edges so nothing will get underneath and I can take the pressure washer to the whole coop when I do the big early summer clean out. I love it!!!

We used pressured treated wood for the floor. I wanted to put down linoleum but my husband didn't think I would need to.....Hmm. Anyway, I use pine shavings; but with the advent of winter stuffed the nesting boxes with straw. More work definately. But for some reason, all my gals seem to LOVE the straw. They had not been using the commercial nesting boxes at all; but when I added straw...Wow, right to the boxes. The little gals will pull and run with it! Scratch around and just in general--fling it! Who would have thought they would love straw? Wouldn't it be "scratchy"? Oh, well they do have alot of fluffy bottom feathers...so if they like it, who am I to argue?

Kitty- when my husband heard that pressure washers were good for coop cleaning, he nearly FLEW to Home Depot to get one "for me" He has wanted one, and I guess this was his opening. He did use it to blast paint off our mudroom when repainting, but it was another tool to be had for sure.

Hi Julia- yeah, we didn't "need" the linoleum either, but what a nice convenience for me come cleaning. I am picturing your happy girls with their hay. Having a "hayday" with it! lol:D

I put the peel-back linoleum squares on my floor. They're cheap and easy to install.
I covered them with about 6-8 inches of pine pellets and a little DE dusting to start a DLM for the winter. I'll be able to add around 12 inches of pellets as I need.

I have the "peel back" type linoleum squares in my kitchen, and where my (messy) dog drinks, they are peeling a little. I don't know if it is an installation problem(they were here when we bought the house), or if that is just what happens to them if moisture is "chronic" so to speak. Just watch to see that moisture doesn't set on them for prolonged time. I will have to replace my kitchen floor someday, and I think I am going to go with the large piece of solid linoleum vs. the tiles. I am sure the tiles are cheaper, but with dogs and boys in my house, I need something that can take a beating!

Too late I guess, but linoleum is great as long as not little chicks. I glued mine down before framing walls. I also stapled strips in between wall studs to deflect poop and keep it from building up on wall base plate 2x4. Works great and a breeze to hose out. I keep 6" grass clippings on it at all times. (Free and we cut 5 acres weekly)

It is good that you are using linoleum to cover the pressured treated wood because they at one time used (CCA-C) Chromated Copper Arsenate
( Arsenic )..
I don't know if they still use it in there or not but hate to here that it is and a chicken has been scratching and pecking and maybe even eating it...
