We just bought 8 chicks and I was hoping that we could build a coop that could fit them all when they grow up. We have a patch of dirt we are hoping to put them on. It is 11 feet long by 4ft. Ideas?

There are a lot of options for a coop to fit your flock. Have you browsed the "Coops" section yet to see if there are any that catch your eye? Are you wanting the coop *and* run to be in that area - or are you planning to allow the birds to free range?

All sorts of ideas here:

And welcome to BYC, nice to have you here.

Are you planning on building one yourself?

Using new store bought lumber
or free scraps?

There are a million ways to go about building a coop...
IMO it's all based on how much money do you want to spend?

I have someone helping me build the coop. He has chicken wire and a bunch of pallets and scrap wood donated by his neighbors. I just need to find a design that would allow 8 chickens to peacefully live in.

FYI chicken wire isn't predator safe and is really only good for keeping chickens out of something (i.e. your garden). You'll be much better off spending a little extra money and using hardware cloth or welded wire in your coop project.
