Coop Mister.... for those HOT DAYS...... how I did it.....

The hook up to the water supply....



The device has a filter... Somewhere around
200 micron filter.....



The mister head, I picked it up at my irrigation store...
about $3, if memory serves me OK....



I secured it to a rafter with electric fence wire....
and suspended it directly over the kiddies pool....



If the chickens get in the pool, to get directly under the spray, and "take a hot day cooling shower"....

I will capture that event and display it here, for all to see......

I wish it was dry enough in my climate for something like that to be effective....experienced one in AZ, that was wonderful.

It's usually 90% humidtiy here when it gets in the 90 degree range.

Mister will work wonders in that....you must be on the dry side of the mountains.

I have a question about misting. My chickens stay under the mister most of the day here in South Texas due to our heat wave. Now, I've noticed their feathers look dry and frayed. Is the mister drying out their feathers? My Black Australorps are getting a rusty red look to their feathers and I noticed all their feathers look dull. Is it the heat, water or a combination of both depleting the oil in their skin/feathers?

It's probably the hard water.... Do you have hard water ??? Red color could be from iron or the red clay....

We have a well and our water is soft. We've been blessed with great water from our well which is over 500 feet deep.

Oh, here on the coast of Texas we have black gumbo clay soil, no red soil here. Their feathers look so dull and dry. Just two weeks ago they were shiny and smooth. I did change their food to Purina Layena and Purina Omega pellets from using the Texas Natural laying pellets. The mister and food change happened about the same time. It's so hot they stay under the mister 90% of the day.

Any other suggestions?

I don't think that two weeks of new food would change the appearance of feathers that grew in months ago, the constant wetness could have an effect tho.
Could be other minerals in the water that are being deposited also....unless you are running all your water thru a softener and depending on how that softener functions.
