bdjh your right its a hobby and we dont do backyard chicken to make money, but I believe there are some ROI on backyard chicken, Fresh eggs daily (no meds); Met more friends since my hens are laying, I get average US $30 after cost of feeds and beddings. Which will pay for their coop within 2-3 yrs (I collected $210 after cost, so far since their egg laying) I didnt plan to sell eggs until friends asked for them. You don't do backyard chickens to save or make money. It's a hobby.....and some hobbies are simply more expensive than others. There is no R.O.I. on backyard chickens.
We have at least $1000 into the coop and run, but I would venture to say less than $1500. If we hadn't gotten ducks, dealt with the costs associated with managing them, and then retrofitted for chickens, it would have been cheaper.
Yes! We've been referring to them as "the golden eggs"Those are pricey dozen of eggs, LOL! Mine would have cost similar if I didn't get some left over construction materials from some friends that just build their homes.![]()
