Coop Project: Maken the Plunge & Getting Chickens

They are absolutely precious. Where did you purchase your chickens and ducks? Since I am in Milliken, I was wondering if you have advice on a good feed supply store in the area close to us. Thank you.

The chicks came from JAX in Loveland, and the ducks came from Bomgaars over behind Centera. The people at Bomgaars are vry nice, but I'm sorry to say that the person that they have incharge of the poultry is a bit clueless.

I get my feed at Bomgaars. Right now they have 20lbs bags of chick feed for $10.49...I was buying the little 7 lbs bags. The chicks and my 2 piggy ducks are going through feed so fast that this last time I went ahead and bought a 20 pounder.

I also buy supplies are JAX, and the people in the farm supply section at JAX are very knowledgeable. When I placed my order to get my Buffs, the lady made sure that their supplier would have them shipped to us by Friday of th week that we got them. Then she called us back to verify with us that they were on their way. The customer service at JAX is very good.

The ducks were the ones that found the feeder refuse. They were kinda laying in the sun, then they were checking out the ground that they were laying on then all of a sudden "Other Duck" sorta realizes, "Hey this looks like food." Couple seconds later the whole crew is going to town.

I worked real hard yesterday on the coop. My Dad and I started at 9:00am and we finally quit after 4:00pm. We were sorting through a pile of scrap ceder siding that was left over from my Dad's addition project. And after all that hard work...honestly, to me, the coop doesn't look like we are any farther along...DANG!

Here's a front angle view of the coop.

We really had no siding to spare, so every cut was checked several times. That's probably why it took all day to get just this little bit completed. But I slept good last night...

I recessed the powerbox into the side of the coop and to me...I think it came out not to bad.

Here's a good veiw looking down into the coop from the deck. It'll give you an idea of the layout of the interior. The wires sticking out of the top wall of the coop are for the interior coop lighting and the heat lamps. The main floor of the coop is 3/4 inch marine plywood, while the floor of the egg box is a compressed particle board.
