My chicks should have been moved outside weeks ago (they are about 14 weeks old now) but I had all kinds of drama with my coop so it wasn't ready for them even though they were ready to move out of their little indoor coop. The coop will be finished today. All I have to do is a few little things and I can move them in. It's secure and much larger than where they are now (which is way too small for them now). The problem is my attached run isn't ready. The walls are up and half of it is covered but I still need more roofing materials and to fill in a few open spots in the fencing and around the bottom which won't be finished until Sunday. I can probably make some temporary patches that will hold up while I am out there watching but nothing I would trust for unsupervised use not knowing what kinds of predators will show up (definitely hawks and probably coyotes, foxes and raccoons). Here's a few pictures to see what is still not done:

So the question is, should I move them to the outside coop now even though they won't get to use the run yet? It's much larger and more spacious than where they are now and they don't have outside time now but they are in a brightly lit room with lots of people and dogs checking on them all day. Outside they would be in a darker and less exciting space but much more room. Also, I hadn't planned to put the feed/water in their coop but if they can't use the run yet I will obviously have to.

WWYD? Move them outside today knowing the run will be another few days or leave them in the house until Sunday? They would only get a little supervised yard time until the run is done but at least they'd have more space to spread their wings and be big girls.

I moved mine out before the run was built. They stayed closed in the coop for about a week to two weeks and we placed hardware cloth over the pop door during the days so they had a big window to the world. This allowed them time to stretch, acclimate to a new home, and adjust to outdoor life.

Yes absolutely move them to the coop, having them in there will help home them to the coop so they'll treat it as home, even when they get run access later.

Do make sure to keep a close eye on how hot it gets in the coop though, being that it's summer and a coop can heat up quite a lot and since it's just been finished, you probably don't have a good read on the temperatures inside or if any changes need to be made to compensate for it.
