Coop Set Up And Cost?

I Am About To Build My Coop And I Was Wondering What Every One Else Has And Cost To Build Feel Free To Post Pics And Tell Me What You Like Or What You Would Do Diffrently.

If you click the sticky about quail at the top, there is a thread that has a ton of pen pix, good info there... I think the biggest thing is size, there never seems to to be enough space. Or it could be we all want to keep too many quail... NAW.... THAT AINT IT!! must be we just build them to small. I like to be able to reach the back of the pen too. Makes cleaning,catching and egg collecting a lot easier. You dont even want to put a pencil on the cost, just buy what you need and gett'er done...Bill

Well it can be very cheap or it can be very expensive

all depends on you

if you get free lumber here and there or if you decide to go to home depot and buy the best lumber type and painted you want all new

so is up to you


I first started with chickens

I was so exited about if that I went to home depot and buy all I needed to make them a big coop an run


It cost me 500 dls

now I sold all chickens and got in to quails

now Im using the chicken coop to make the quails cages

and also now i try to get as much free stuff as i can


My advice to you is

DO NOT EXPEND LOT OF MONEY
CAGES WILL GET DIRTY ANYWAY

I can make a 8x3 breeder cage for about $50. It just depends on what you use. By the way I replaced the OSB with smart board which was $26 for all of it. I have several cages like this some bigger ones and a boat load of small cages. Here are 3 of mine.

Luckily For Me My Cousin Is A Pro. Framer, And He Owes Me A Favor So He Is Going To Build It My Cap Is About 700 Right Now (till The Wife Isnt Paying Attention Lol) My Setup Is Going To Be Very Simular To A Shed/ Green House With About 8 Breeding Pens And Two Big Runs In It Hopefully.

Mine cost me $500, wasn't really looking to spend that much but the friend that helped me build it said, "its either gonna be nice and cool or theres not gonna be anything at all"
So yeah I went with everything new and good materials.

Maybe it is just the work your but off for a profit in me, but $500 for each pen would put me out of quail fast. It only costs me a few $$ if I find used wood or wire, and with a coat of paint you can't even tell. But that is a great pen, if only there was a cheap redneck version??
