Coop size vs chicken math

I think it's a personal preference 😉 I rake out my run and put the poo in my compost pile, some folks let it compost in the run.(I just can't stand looking at all that poo, lol)
I could look at it all day. I just don't want to smell it!! Do you have a raised coop?

My setup only smells if it gets wet, or if one of them JUST pooped (like right in front of me). If I skip cleaning the coop for whatever reason (when it's rainy, I can't change the shavings without getting the fresh ones wet) an ammonia smell will build up, but only when I'm off schedule.

When my run gets wet (and STINKY) I turn all the stuff and mix it around (it'll get packed down and gross) and then add a LOT of sand and pine shavings (these are both very dry materials) and mix that around again. That basically fixes the smell problem instantly.

It's rained tons here in the last 3 years, before that there was a drought. It's hit or miss for this area. I will be getting some DE as well.

DE doesn't actually do much to prevent parasites and can cause respiratory issues. However, Sweet PZD is super helpful for managing smell.
