Is that rated for barn use?

Chicken dander is a fire hazard. :(
It is the same one I got from the feed store that they recommend. The lady in the feed store uses it in 2 of her coops and has never had a problem. I've had it in my coop for almost a year and no issues. I give it a dusting, just like everything else every now and again.

Hi, I did a similar build. A fan is a good idea, but another option that I did was vented "portholes". Open rafters is also a good idea, but I don't think I see a way for you to incorporate that as far along as you are.

You can buy a 4" hole drill at the hardware store pretty cheap as it is a common plumbing size. I'd put 5-6 holes down each side of your house up on the top under the eave (because the point is to get bad air out of the coop up high). This worked wonders on my coop and I can actually feel the air pushing through the coop if I put my hand in front of them.

Another small tip- you'll be amazed at how much water will come off your 8x12 roof. As silly as it is, investing $10 in a gutter and $10 in a downspout will save you a lot of hassle and mess and erosion. It looks like dirt there on the end... the dripping will eat that down 6" in no time. Just a suggestion!

A 4" hole is only 12.5 square inches.

A square foot is 144 square inches. You'd need 12 holes to add a single square foot so it's much easier to simply remove the top 6 inches of the siding to add generous ventilation where it's needed most. :)

Agreed- but it works great for my coop. I also have open rafters as well, but the holes are better than nothing... and that's a lot of work for the guy when they are close to done. Better something than nothing. :)
