Our Copper Marin is sooo weird! Every time the one rooster (very specific to the roo) cock-a-doodle-doo's, she makes the funniest Coo'ing sound, like a loud dove! We initially thought perhaps she was a he, and we are still not 100% sure, but if she is a roo it is officially the strangest noise ever!
She is a large, speckled hen (?), approximately around 4 1/2 months old. So, do you guys think we have a roo who is making funny noises or a hen making funny noises? Also, none of our hens have laid yet so we still have no actual confirmation on male/female in our small flock. The attached pic are of our 2 Coppers- one we call Crow, all black with metallic green, and the other a speckled black and white one we call Jerk- cause she is pushy and basically a jerk to the others.

The black chicken is a hen. Can you get a closer picture of her? She doesn't look like a maran, but it might be the distance.

The barred chicken (the patteren is called barred--speckled is a different pattern) is a rooster and is not a maran. He looks is a mix. A closer pic would help determine what breeds he is mixed with.

The polish is also a rooster.

Thanks! I knew I had 2 Polish Roosters, but the lady who sold me the barred (thanks for that, BTW!) chicken said he was a she, and both the black one and the barred one were copper marans. Granted they were only a couple weeks old, so maybe she didn't know. Now I have 3 roosters with only 4 hens! Not sure what to do with this!

I will work on a closer pic of the barred a bit later today

She might not know the sex but she did know the breed. Do not go back to her. If you like to support a chicken welfare system you can separate the cockerels now and as long as they don't see the hens they won't fight. Actually I think one rooster and three hens for most breeds is a poor ration he will wear them out. What is your goals? eggs? You are on the wrong side of the ratio. I would take them to a poultry auction and unload the cockerels. But that is what I would do. After five years with back yard chickens I get real tire of chickens that don't produce.

My goal is eggs. And I did not want that many roosters! I have 2 Roosters who are Polish Tophats, and they don't fight almost at all, even with the hens, so I was OK having 2 roosters for what I thought was 5 hens. But the Copper Maran who I thought was a hen is not nice at all, so I would love to auction him off!

Both birds in the second photo appear to be cockerels. Agree the solid black one in the first photo is a female. I agree we need some better photos to be sure!😊
