no, the sewing machine is in my living room, that was just an example.
no, the drawer part is completely sealed off from where the machine is.

The sewing machine will either have a knee bar or a foot contoller to operate the machine. That would make a hole in the wood, under the large opening where you would sit, somewhere under there. It's either at the bottom, or the top right hand side. The picture you show looks to be a Domestic brand machine, in a Singer Cabinet. May not fit properly, and there will be a gap somwhere for a snake to get in. Also, look at the backside of the cabinet.

Copperheads are VERY shy snakes..
I highly doubt it went in your living room ( with A LOT of humans around..) by its self...
Just saying...

One of my mom's favorite stories was about as a tween in ghetto NYC she took her nephew to a construction site and filled up his clothes with hundreds of little garter snakes. She then parked him on Nana's door step, rang the doorbell and ran. Says she heard the scream followed by "Arlene Jean you better never come home"

Said she stayed with friends for a week or so.

redhen, You may have shy Copperheads back east, but in the midwest, people are CONSTANTLY calling for Copperhead removal from there homes! Bathrooms and back, unused guestrooms are the favorite places, but they'll go anywhere in the house that they can! Cats usually solve the problem.

that is what it is, but the cabinet is also from domestic..the drawers part is sealed on all sides, not like most cabinets where there is a gap..it was also under some fabric.

Yup, more like a rat snake. They get pretty agressive when threatened, DH was bitten 3 times just catching one.

BUT.... why/how did end up in the 2nd drawer of your sewing table so you would find it? They can slip through some very tiny spaces, but why? Mine all hang out stealing eggs from the chickens and eating any mouse who dares to come around.
