Hi all,

We're having a cookout tomorrow and I have two dozen ears of corn sitting in the fridge; I'd REALLY like to husk it all today if I can, but am wondering if that will change the flavor/sweetness when I make it tomorrow? Would love advice before I go about husking them all. Doing it today would save me precious time tomorrow. Hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend--the weather's gorgeous here in Buckeye Country!

It is beautiful here in Michigan too. As for the corn - I wouldn't husk it until tomorrow - Sorry! In my opinion it doesn't taste as good. Have a nice holiday.

done it both ways and it got eaten either way, so i say go for it husk it today and give the husks to the chickens. My chickens come running when I bring out the bag with corn in it, mine will eat it straight off the cob just hold it between fingers and let them at it

Holy crap!!! You're from up north and you say cookout!!! I thought all y'all say barbeque.

Down south a cookout is cooking on a grill and barbeque is a pig cooked on a pig grill. The northerners that move down south confuse me when they talk about having a barbeque. I'm always like "where'd you get the pig? Did you get a good price on it?" they just look at me strange and say "um we're having hotdogs."

I thought everyone said cookout...didn't realize it was a regional thing. Now I'll have to pay attention. And you'll laugh at this: I thought barbecue was purely southern! No one up here ever says "barbecue" as an event; we only use it to refer to meat that's been barbecued.

I'm going for it and husking the corn today. To hell with it. I've got too much stuff to do, and as mdbucks says, it gets eaten either way. I'll share a husk or two with my girls! (never thought of that before)

P.S. Trisha, I think it's funny you think I'm "way up north"! I thought way up north was Maine! I guess it's all relative.

Amy,
Maybe y'all are different in Ohio. Barbeque in the south isn't an event, it's a cooked pig. I thought only northerners used barbeque when referring to a cookout. We don't in the south. We don't cook on barbeques, we cook on grills. If we are cooking out on the grill we're "cookin on the grill" or if we're "cookin on the grill" with friends and family, we're having a cookout.

I call everything above Virginia "up north". I've been as far up as NYC. Talk about culture shock. I remember a lady cussed me out on the street just for looking at her (I was 17). All I could say was "Sorry ma'am, forgive me ma'am". That made her scream more "Where are you from? Mayberry?! Go back home hick!" I just bout wet myself.

You guys are funny! We always say BBQ - when ever we're cooking outside on the grill! (from CA)

How are you going to cook the corn?
I like to leave it in the husk - soak in water for 20-30 minutes, pull the husk down and remove the strings - then close it back up - tie closed, and pop on the grill! YUMMY!
(It does take time to get it all done if you're doing a bunch of em)

We sometimes pull back the husk just to check for worms and wash the corn then put the husk back over the corn and grill them with the husk on. Then when they're grilled and cooled a bit you peel back the husk and hold onto the husk like a stick and eat it like corn on a stick kinda thing. Does that make since?
