Cornish Thread

Only ones I know of with really good eggs is in Oklahoma. Don't remember where the other guy is.
Methinks you are thinking of Al6517, and I don't think he ships eggs. You could ask though. He has some awesome Whites, but I think he doesn't even sell birds either.
With that, i would like to comment on that practice.
For those who think that is wrong, when you work hard to breed these very different type of birds from your average backyard flock chickens, and they only give you about 100 eggs per year, they become a very precious undertaking if you are doing it well.
I thought at one time it was snobbish for breeders to "hoard their stock", but now I understand that isn't the case.

However, I do see that some might want to not just sell to anyone who comes along and thinks they want what someone else has worked long and hard to develop. It is easy for a person to just take your stock and turn around and start breeding it back to an undesirable state and then sell them off using your name and then it ruins your reputation as a breeder. I have seen it happen. It really irritates me with some people who buy from big name breeders and then start selling from the birds they bought and charge really high prices by riding on the big name's coattails. That is just wrong to me. We see it here often enough on BYC, unfortunately.
I am grateful that someone trusted me enough to buy their birds and start my own small flock of DCs, and I hope I do them justice.

Yes that is who I was thinking of. And you are absolutely right. He doesn't sell much and only to people he can trust to do him justice. Because of everything you say. They don't lay like leghorns and all the good breeders have to watch out for the wannabees that do just as you say.

Besides, in Al's case, he had a devastating setback a few months ago and lost his best breeders.

I agree...now since I am a new chicken owner and do not want to just ride on the work of another, where do I get experience and not destroy the work of Duane Urch or destroy his reputation. We, as a new generation of breeders, must preserve the rare that Mr. Urch has worked so long and hard to maintain. Help me learn, please !! I am reading this thread but will be trying to work with White Jersey Giant, Buckeye, Silver Penciled Wyandotte, and Australorp.

I will pm you later. It sounds like we have more in common than just Cornish.

Everyone has their price even Al. I have a PM to prove it. $200.00 a bird is crazy for culls. Al has decent birds but there are other breeders out there that are in it for the birds and have as good or better stock and are not in it for selfish (IMO) reasons. Joining a breed club is the best way to get a person in touch with good generous breeders.
