These are the cornish Im working with at moment, these are almost 9 months so they do take a while to grow

Canadian if you are waiting for a dark Cornish to hit 8# you will be waiting 6 months or longer,unless you have some real special birds.

Sambat, nice looking Cornish you have there. That's what I'm aiming for, not an exhibition type but a good practical all purpose meaty kind of bird.
I'm looking for Cornish-hen sized- you know those tiny whole frozen birds - around a pound or so dressed. The Cornish x have no flavour when they are that small, I know that the Cornish will take much longer to get to that size but at least (hopefully ) they will have some taste.

the amount of feed They consume makes it a no win situation. I've tried it. I even bought Welp CX Slow growers,SLOW is no exaggeration. From now on I will stick to the CX,least way until I get my own line developed.lol
Buy the CX and butcher at 3weeks for the game hen size birds

It's true nothing can beat a cornish cross, if I wanted a huge chicken that would be the way to go.

If you are looking for an alternative to Cornish X game hens try raising out some btms, the bantams mature out faster than the stds and will have a lot more meat on them at the size you desire.

I went with the slow grow because I didn't want to restrict. the feed.(Not their fault their always hungry) I kept some back to cross into my Dark cornish

Thanks CanadianBuckeye, these surprised me with how well they find food. I had them in a chicken tractor/ark and had to move then 3 times a day or they would eat all the grass and dig for bugs

JRNash theyre nice and all but once I get some nice hatchings were I feel I have something better I'll let you guys know about the flavor lol
