Cornish Thread

I have both, I have standard cornish and the cornish x. Yes the cornish x get overheated easily so I keep them in the shade mostly but I wondered if my dark cornish might do better if a little extra care was given. Didnt want a heat wave to cause problems I can avoid
While scanning over the youngsters I look for the ones who are NOT panting. I am going to try to mark them and watch their progress.

I prefer a harder feathered bird myself, but they do get colder than the ones with extra fluff- my dark cornish were cold last winter even though it wasn't really that cold at all. I'm doing the same thing, and I'm trying to select for individuals that have "goldilocks" fluff for my region's climate. I don't like too much feather, the hard feathered birds have cleaner feathers especially the rear end. the Buckeyes I have have excess fluff, I want a little bit less. No cushions! Interestingly the red sex link crosses I have are just about right.

I don't think the DC are the best in the cold, over here in the UK its a lot colder here in the North & I've had a few problems with them especially with wind chill having said that we haven't had a real bad winter for 5 years so not complaining
