I ditched the marans,i kept "Ugly"
Didn't like any of the maran crosses.
The best crosses to date involve barred rocks.

I thought the Marans may add hybrid vigor ,but on the pullets of this cross now i will breed back to a unrelated Standard dark cornish.

You can get hybrid vigor from any cross. Even the same breed will exhibit hybrid vigor if the pairs come from different lines and locations. The farther the better

Buckeye was my next choice , i have a pure cockerel cornish chick to breed back into the choice pullets next spring .

I believe that would be an excellent cross

Any cornish breeders here ever crossbreed the cornish to make meat birds ? I have been into experimental mode trying to get a meat cross with std cornish as a base the other half was Black copper maran.

I used Murray McMurray Cornish Roaster pullets and a DC cock bird.

So you were able to get the roaster white cornish to lay ,,then get those outstanding birds out of a Dark Cornish rooster ?thats a great bunch of chickens.
