Any cornish breeders here ever crossbreed the cornish to make meat birds ? I have been into experimental mode trying to get a meat cross with std cornish as a base the other half was Black copper maran.

Yes, I crossed Buckeye to cornish and the chicks are around 14 weeks old. The cockerels are pretty impressive, but the pullets are significantly smaller.

Buckeye was my next choice , i have a pure cockerel cornish chick to breed back into the choice pullets next spring .

When you cross breed do you use Cornish male and a female of another breed or is it the other way around.

Apparently it does matter, in England where they used to make cornish/dorking meatie crosses, they used a cornish rooster to get a better bird. I did not have a cornish rooster so I had to do it the other way. I have one now, next year I'll make the cross cornish rooster to buckeye hen and see if there's any difference.
I've seen cornish x malines, very impressive when dressed.

Most of the chicks looked like you'd expect, dark red with single lacing, but I did get an atypical weird looking chick from that cross, very leggy.

i didnt know what to do so i used BC Maran over standard and bantam cornish hens ,the chicks were same black all but two came out caramel.
