Where are you guys getting LF cornish from? I just got back from a show and swap meet in florida and no one was showing any, there was some very impressive bantam cornish and barred rock though...im kind of new to selctively breeding vs yard mix

The breeders have face book pages. Look up Cornish poultry clubs,oriental Gamefowl,Indian Gamefowl etc on fb.It's really hard to find LF Cornish breeders outside of hatcheries. It Takes a while but it's worth the the wait to find SOP birds. I think more birds will be listed as winter gives way to spring.

Thanks JRNash, I got two names to go on that Im going to try and find in Newnan Ga poultry show next month so hopefully Ill get something. Ive got a flock of dark cornish theyre slightly better than what ive had from hatcheries but theres always room for improvement!

Sambat let's see them! Even if they are a work in progress. The Standard dark Cornish I have are slightly more typey than hatchery, but nowhere near the SOP- but I still love 'em.

Ill take a photo of them and post it soon. Im eventually looking to also make a good meat bird...of course I wont reach broiler size but Ill givd it my best shot!

I'm planning on raising a few Dark Cornish to see how long it takes them to dress out at Cornish hen size or a little bigger. We'd like a bird that we can split in half and have no leftovers. An eight pound chicken lasts all week here..... Roast chicken, chicken sandwiches, chicken pie, chicken soup......... we'd like to try something smaller. If I remember right, the dark Cornish chicks I had grew very quickly as chicks, much faster than the Buckeyes, but the Buckeyes did overtake them. Unfortunately I didn't make notes, this time I'm going to record their weights each week.

Canadian if you are waiting for a dark Cornish to hit 8# you will be waiting 6 months or longer,unless you have some real special birds.

the amount of feed They consume makes it a no win situation. I've tried it. I even bought Welp CX Slow growers,SLOW is no exaggeration. From now on I will stick to the CX,least way until I get my own line developed.lol
Buy the CX and butcher at 3weeks for the game hen size birds
