You can freeze them and then thaw them out in the fridge especially if you have to keep them in the fridge for a bit longer if they can't be shipped right off.

I am going to but I was just thinking they might be able to do it for me or at least send him to the lab for testing for me. Trying to deal with the state myself is getting very frustrating

No idea. Others have done it, but I don't do send off for necropsies because I've never had a need to. I've only lost 2 birds and I know the cause of both.

I'd do the fridge

I've done an actually autopsy on a dog at the vet. They froze it and the vet thawed it out and was able to get all the tests that he needed to get done. It was poisoned by rat poisoning.
