Yeah I figured that out after haha I’m going outside to go put him down right now and then I’ll put him in our fridge since I don’t think a cooler would be cold enough?
If you have enough ice it'll be plenty cold enough, you just have to keep your eye on it.

You can freeze them and then thaw them out in the fridge especially if you have to keep them in the fridge for a bit longer if they can't be shipped right off.
No.
Freezing can destroy blood cells and or change structures needed for more in depth testing. Some vet's can do a basic visual necropsy after a body has been frozen and thawed, but when doing lab tests don't freeze!

NO, don't freeze!!! It does mess up the necropsy, and especially if more than gross pathology is needed. Just chill, in fact dipping the bird in cold water will chill him faster, so preserving tissues better. Then wrap in plastic and refrigerate.

Ditto!
Wrap well and keep in a fridge or cooler with ice.

That makes a lot of sense!!! I never though lot of that!! Thanks.

I usually try to keep all responses here smart alecky and jokey, but today my daughter is in the hospital. She has 4 children, ages 2 and up, 1 step son, and a foster son. That's 6 kids total depending on her. They think the illness has caused her to have a stroke as well. She's only 40. Not being able to go to the hospital, to see her, hold her hand is torture! I want my baby to be alright!
Oh no! I'm sorry. :hugs
Sending jingles, prayers, positive thoughts and have fingers crossed for her!

Okay thank you. We do have a lot of ice and also it’s supposed to be really cold tonight.
I'm so sorry. I know you're struggling with it. Keep him in mind, do what is best for him. It sucks, I know exactly how you're feeling :hugs :hugs

Still crazy curious here...how does the vodka cocktail work??
I'd Love to know an easier way when I have to cull humanely.

Is this in general, or is this more common in some areas more than others?
Like backyard song birds...or ...sparrows?

Any idea how close another farm might have to be? I don't have any other chickens around that I can hear or know of...

This has me wondering about Mareks, which to my knowledge I've not had in my flock to date. Only one time, many years ago, did I bring adult birds into an established flock. Since then it's been chicks under a week old that I've ordered or bought locally, or have had a broody hen hatch out.

Can chicks from a hatchery bring in Mareks? From what I can find, probably not.
Birds the ones with feathers that fly

Thank you so much!! I’m definitely trying to keep him in mind which is why I’m putting him down today instead of waiting. Honestly I probably should have done it yesterday :hit
