I'm gonna try not to make a big issue of this, but, I found my hen "Sunshine" on the floor of the coop this morning. No not dead, but not on the perches. She is having respiratory trouble, like my "BeeBees" had, before she died last month. (I do not cuss or swear) but some angry, unfriendly words come to mind. I had to tell someone, so why not here with my friends on BYC?:hit:barnie:fl:fl:he:(
Sending good thoughts out of VA from me and the girls. Plus one roo.

These people protesting are absolute idiots and hypocrites. They are out there with signs like "Covid isn't real" while WEARING MASKS....seriously?! If it's not real, why are you wearing a mask?! These people need to STFU and stay home.

People are complaining that they can't get a haircut, their rights are being infringed because they can't get their nails done, this is absurd.

You think these people will give up a ventilator if they need one and someone who didn't protest does as well? I know what decision we, as a society, should make when this happens. These people should be put to the bottom of the list when help is needed. Let Darwinism take its' toll.

Anne Frank hid for what, 2 years, in a damn attic because PEOPLE were hunting them and killing them, yet these morons can't handle staying at home with food delivery, swimming in TP, for a whole 2-3 weeks because of a virus outbreak. Unbelievable, spoiled, ignorant people.

Whew, I needed to get that out :)

Amen.

I just know I will get rotten tomatoes thrown at me for this, but we (Americans in general) are some of the MOST spoiled people on earth.

No, I do not belive it makes me unpatriotic to say it out loud. One can't beign to work on an issue if they refuse to recognize it. I like my freedoms as much as the next person, but I'm not willing to let others suffer or needlessly die so I can have a tantrum about it.

Thank you. I just checked up on Sunshine. She's not dying quite yet, shes still walking and scratching around, with all the others. Her weakness, sneezing and coughing is a major concern though. Say HI to your flock for me :D

Thanks. My birds are precious to me. as you know, full well.
You know I like to give you a hard time about it, because well I'm just weird like that, but I think you are the most selfless and loving chicken owner here and that's a good thing. :hugs

Even if you are still a few marbles short...

"Featherhead says Hi and sends lots of love...bok bok"

They grow fast! And they eat a lot!
At least if they are broad breasted whites, which they look like and the price point (original price) makes me think they are.
Most hatchery pages will have a good feed to pound conversion chart.

I've kept broad breasted white hens, who I let mature to laying stage, and crossed them with my Bourbon Red tom with good success. They were heavy and lumbering hens, much like if you kept a cornish cross meat type of hen, but active enough to be happy in a large barnyard setting. They layed well too.
I think I'm just keeping them until 20 weeks or less. I doubt they would eat a ton of feed in that amount of time that we will notice, but maybe they will. I'll also give them veggie scraps like I do with the chickens every day at dinner time.

I'll load up on turkey feed 🤪

Someone told me that I should just get a heritage breed if I want to have them as pets because the broadbreasted just get way too big and they start having health problems after a while just like the Cornish cross.

Yep. cherished memories! Ben only crows, when he feels like it!
Squatch used to crow... when the neighbors came home, when the neighbors would walk out of their house, when the neighbors would talk, when the neighbors dog would bark, when my dogs would bark, when he would see me, when he would see our other neighbors, when UPS would get here...

Basically he liked to crow 😂😂😂

Mine usually crowed when I went out there and then randomly whenever but not a ton. Usually in the morning and evening and then a couple times in the afternoon.
