The agreement here when I got chickens was we were going to make stewing hens out of the spent hens.
I am ok with it...I grew up where Saturdays in the summer were helping process my aunts cockerels. Sundays were fried chicken.

When the time came to process them....my hubby and grown son had become attached. I did it anyway. They refuse to eat them.

I sneak one in now and then. 🤫
My family loves eating our chickens especially because the chicken slayer (me) butchers them.

Mine started as strictly pets and I only had like 8 and thought I could never eat them. They’re all named. But now I’m like ready to off a nasty hen :lau :th šŸ™ˆ

Things change haha

I used to think I wouldn’t be able to eat something I raised either but now I think I’ll be fine. Especially if I don’t name them and also they will be way away from the house so more distance both physically and mentally.

I do think my mother will probably refuse to eat it though but I, on the other hand, am actually extremely excited to try the meat and see what it tastes like as weird as that probably sounds.

Not weird at all. Store chicken is flavorless and mushy. Home raised is quite different.
Some people prefer home raised and others would rather have what they have become accustomed to.

Yeah that makes sense!! I’ve heard homegrown is a lot stronger or like more intense or whatever so I’m not sure if I’ll like it but I’m determined to try it. Which is why I got these. I’m really excited about it and they’ll be taken care of.

Maybe process one or two and then decide if it's for y'all. If it isn't you can sell the rest.
