I think the only way to buy chicks back then was straight run.

Meyers is good to order from. I expect you will have to plan for cockerel troubles before they hit butcher weight.

That’s a good idea!!! Definitely going to do that!! I’m actually planning to give some to my brother anyway so if we don’t love them, they can eat them. I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to. They also have 3 dogs so I’m sure if nobody likes it, they’ll gladly feed it to the dogs and all the organs will of course be going to them too.

Then eat the dogs!

These ones won’t be pets!! I’m getting them strictly for meat. Unless one stands out

And I’m getting 10 of these strictly for eggs to sell.

I likely won’t name any of these ones so I don’t get too attached.

I still have my girls in the backyard for my pets and good looks, etc. and eggs for our family and those are all named and will never get eaten. I have some almost 5 year old hens still most of them still lay in the spring and summer plus contribute to the compost when they’re not so they get to stay.

But these ones I’m not going to get attached to and I’m even putting them in a completely separate location to make sure of that haha

I have a few that have become pets. They will never be eaten.
Bitty my best mama bird ever for example.

I have been forbidden from processing......hubs said no.

My quackers have already wormed their way into his heart too.
